We the People | The White House

Throughout our history Americans have used petitions to unite around issues they care about. We the People provides you with a new way to petition the federal government to take action on a range of issues. And if your petition attracts enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it is sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.

they need just 5000 signatures per petition for it to be sent to relevant authority and seek an official response.

this is incredible!

5000 is a bit low, Brits have an e-petition system but it requires 100,000 signatures before it will get discussed on the floor of the commons. But this is more than just getting an answer from an official.

Imagine if we have similar and you come up with something and it gets debated in the LS :)

They could but ideally it should be a govt thing because then they cannot refuse after reaching an considered number.

I wonder what requirements would be there for the petitions on The White House website. They might require the user to enter their social security number?
