Expediting changes to Google+

With the discovery of this new bug, we have decided to expedite the shut-down of all Google+ APIs; this will occur within the next 90 days. In addition, we have also decided to accelerate the sunsetting of consumer Google+ from August 2019 to April 2019. While we recognize there are implications for developers, we want to ensure the protection of our users.

And they found one more bug and hence decided to shutdown even earlier.

So now April 2019 is the day instead of August 2019

Find one more bug please... and shutdown immediately!! 😀
 
i do hope that they keep the existing content archived in a read only format. there is a lot of data there that would be lost otherwise. a lot of googlers used it for official announcements at one point of time. a lot of other users did the same. this would be similar to shutdown of geocities and upcoming tumblr cleanup. lots of dead links and embeds everywhere. it would be shame for google to add to the link rot.
 

Google was once a giant.

Everything it did was like "best project" ever.

But now if you look back. Google has failed in judging people with many many projects. Especially social projects.

It has not been able to go beyond - Google Search, Gmail, Youtube.

Only these sites are consistently used by people.

I still feel that had Google not shutdown Orkut but chosen to expand it - it would be completely different scenario today.
