BSNL to shift to SDH tech July 22: The introduction of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) technology would bring revolution in the filed of telecommunication. the technology is likely to be used by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) soon, sources revealed.A BSNL official on condition of anonymity told that SDH technology would increase the speed of data transfer through media manifold. The data can be transferred through this media to gega and terra bytes speed which would bring revolution in telecommunication sector. Besides transfer of ordinary voice, other kind of audio-video transmission, graphics, texts etc can be transferred by SDH technology.The technology is useful for both the cellular phone and fixed phone telecommunication. The technology is also useful to increase the transfer of data through the internet.The Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) with all new latest equipment can be utilised for transmission. The transmission of data with very high speed has made the technology more useful in the field of rapidly growing telecom sector through it the globe.The BSNL would also introduce with the technology by using its existing OFC network with use of some new equipment. sorry to inform everybody news posted above by myself is useless for we broadband users...


Whenever this is implemented it will increase the bandwidth from the user to BSNL's gateway immensly but what about international bandwidth? Unless you connect to server only in India this upgrade makes no difference to the average user.
Even the current infrastructure supports 2Mbps but there is no way BSNL's international gateways can support that much for even 1/4th of the broadband subscribers. So no use talking about Giga and Tera bit speeds unless its about the international gateway.

guess SDH (also known as OC3 in US) will be useful for Indian telecom companies, Call Centers/VOIP telephony, VPN, Web hosting guys, VOD/IPTV publishers, etc. It'll be used at the Corporate level.

Retail broadband users have nothing to cheer about this.
