My little brother is using Dragon Naturally Speaking ( http://www.nuance.com/naturallyspeaking/ ) to IM with his friends right now. That means he’s speaking to his computer, which is recognizing his voice, writing it down, his friends are reading it, and they speak back to the computer, which then writes it down. My question is: IS THIS NOT GOING TOO FAR??? Why not just talk on the phone!!!??? Or at least use skype or something…

i haven't really understood the usefulness of speech recognition either.. other than perhaps as a show off thing..

It if makes life easy for the handicapped and disabled.... i guess its worth it.

well the first thing that comes to mind is word processing..... a whole lot of people find it much easier to dictate a letter than to have to type it up. Sort of like a virtual stenographer. That itself makes it worth it. Plus as it gets more integrated as a mainstream input device, the possibilities are endless.

u can surf using opera and other voice enabled browser without using a mouse and a keyboard. 😀
