so who will process the credit cards??

In the meantime a US-based processor unless we can find a more suitable one in India.

not serving broadband customers? what shit!

how are they affected by chargebacks? i assumed visa and mastercard would be the one paying the charges!

I think it contstitutes a risk on their merchant status with Visa and MC.

i wonder what airtel use for their own payment gateway then. i pay my own airtel bills over the counter for no specific reasons. the store in a market where i visit rather frequently. paypal i guess would work without any contracts but i guess the processing charges are much more than what these companies charge.

The probably have their own merchant account directly with Visa etc.

Yeah. I haven't done the numbers yet, but if charges are still like they were a few years back, we'd probably have to add a small surcharge for Paypal - the exchange rate is usually quite bad and then there is the fees, but for those earning in USD$ it might be a convenience worth sacrificing a dollar for, I don't know.

yeah the charges are insane. closed my account recently. was getting out of hand.

It seems our US-processor is on friendly terms with Paypal. USD$0.45 + 5.5% on any and all transactions (Visa, Visa Debit, Mastercard, Mastercard Debit, AMEX, Diners, JCB, Discover and Paypal)... so in general about Rs80 on an Rs1000 transaction and Rs160 on an Rs2500 transaction. And they can process in INR which is nice 🙂

5.5%! WHOA. plus 45 cents. typical paypal bullshit. they operate pretty much like a bank account but do not give any interest. 😀

This isn't Paypal, but they accept Paypal as well as all types of CC. It's a little more than CCAvenue is but would be useful for those with foreign cards or who want to use Paypal I guess...

Currently airtel is using icici payseal gateway for credit cards and billdesk gateway for Debit n Netbanking accounts

We're looking at it but favouring one bank over another can make for a pain in the ass...

That's right. Airtel uses ICICI Payment Gateway for Credit Cards. I pay all my Airtel bills online via this gateway. It's awesome. IMO, ICICI Gateway is the best one. 🙂

I have used ICICI's gateway for some magazine subscription,I thought it was fairly smooth

Good to know. What about other banks? HDFC? Citi? SBI? Axis? etc

Never come across Citi, SBI of HDFCBut had an encounter with Axis once. Was a bit annoying and slow. But it worked.

I have a friend who used to work for Citi. Might have a word. Have sent an inquiry to ICICI merchant services regarding their payment gateway.

--Nothing like Citibank Payment gateway.. Better than ICICI/HDFC/Axis ! I guess surcharge is less on Axis payment gateway. I'm commenting as i book Indian Railway tickets from IRCTC Online Passenger Reservation System and in their payment gateway its mentioned which bank gateway attracts less surcharge! Probably it will be same elsewere.
--Moreover ITZ recharge cards is a good option too these days.
--Tie up with billdesk,as almost all online payments eg. credit card bill payments, mobile bill, etc are done by this only.
--And yeah one more great billing site: www.visabillpay.in
