Disconnection Problem

I encounter disconnection problem during times of inactivity (while I am reading a web page). The link is also breaking quite often. The telephone exchange says that it is not their mistake. Iam using Windows 98 OS. My TCP/IP address, gateway and DNS values are empty as they are the default values. Does changing the IP addresses and gateways solve the problem?Please help!!

^ yes ! change the values . you should see a significant change provided that your phone cable has no earthing/leak problems .
