3G can do for broadband/internet in rural india what mobiles did for telephony. 🙂 3G can enable remote broadband availability throughout the country.

270 pm. what is the data limit?the GPRS hack may work temporarily. it will be plugged eventually. ( I think. I blame you, google) 😛If not, 270 for unlimited data is awesome. I'll do that . subscribe & hack for my iPhone if that hack's for real. 🙂

Mobile revolution happenede when Reliance offered phones for 500 rupees in 2003. before that it was a luxury item.

Same thing with 3G in rural and mass areas. it has to be affordable to the rural users. Unless that happens, 3G and its benefits will remain a pipe dream.

well the government now has no excuse not to provide cheap rural broadband for mmm initiatives like e-chaupals. post offices in rural india could be connected and well things can happen... it remains to be seen what exactly happens in the coming 2 years. 😀 they have taken 2-3-4-5 years and still not have approved the licenses to private players. what a freaking disappointment.

Govt. has no role in getting into telephone-broadband business.A revolution will only happen when Private players are allowed free & quick access to this rural broadband thingy.Even then, if it does not make economic sense, rural broadband thing will not happen.catch-22 situation.Unless people in rural areas understand that they have to pay for stuff and services and that their is no such thing as free lunch, nothing will move forward.Socialism is such a dirty word. Worse than communism.

heh. but there is no incentive to get private players to invest in the rural markets. 🙂 mobile of course is a different market compared to landline services. BSNL has been ultra slow in making use of the massive first player advantage with 3G services. they are still launching 3G in new cities! after so many months of having the rights to launch it throughout the country! freaking disappointing.

dude it isnt a hack btw its unlimited plan

all u have to do is

1) get bsnl sim with internet activated for 270pm (differs)

and in settings connectivity chane network from dual mode to umts and network selection auto matic to manual

once done u ll be in bsnl 3g network with practical data transfer rate of 1mbps but theoritically its 3.1mbps

im using this for past 2 months

@AdminWhat do you expect from a govt. agency.Full of babus with inflated egos and delusions of grandeur.Anyone who has had to deal with these MoFos at MTNL, whatever, would rather pay more than deal with those pri%^s!3G will take off only when private players get in and provide plans that make sense.for eg. Airtel providing its broadband/iptv users discounts on Airtel 3G! 😛 (wishful thinking, I know!)3G will become passe' anyway once 4G comes in next year, probably.

3G can enable remote broadband availability throughout the country.

that will take atleast 5 - 6 yrs to get remote BB

NEW DELHI: Tata Teleservices on Thursday supported telecom regulator TRAI on kick-starting the process for 4G mobile telephony, saying it would help
India to come out with high-end services in line with the advanced countries.

"About 23 operators will be launching 4G by 2010. The 3G was launched in 2001 and we are already nine years behind. It should not happen also in 4G you become nine years behind," TTSL MD Anil Sardana said.

The 4G, known as the ultra-broadband, offers download at faster speed and high definition video on demand, among other services.

Asked whether the company is comfortable in skipping 3G, Sardana said, "Why not...In that case it clearly means that we catch up with the world. 4G is a good interesting thing to evaluate for the simple reason that the World is already launching 4G."

yawn....yet another fake promise from over fake Govt.Remove A Raja for 3G's Sake.

So wait... Can we just jump straight from 2G to 4G without even having 3G? If so, then I am all for it!

MUMBAI: Prime Minister's Information Technology Advisor, Sam Pitroda, today said that the Government expects to complete the 3G auction
within the next two months, enabling operators to roll-out their services soon.

"This (the 3G auction) will be completed within the next 60 days. The operators would start offering the service in this calendar year itself," Pitroda told reporters on the sidelines of a conference here.

Noting that the auction process is "already delayed", Pitroda said the Government wanted to complete the spectrum sale as soon as possible.

"The auction is already delayed but it will be completed soon...there is no question of any kind of uncertainty (in the auction process)," Pitroda said.

Pitroda said the Government hopes to bring 4G services into the country over the next two-years, for which, the timely implementation of 3G is necessary.

"We are now thinking of introducing 4G services in the next two-years in India. It is important that we do not lag behind in 3G technologies," Pitroda said.
