Bharti adds 2.85 mln mobile users in Dec: Industry data

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel, India's top mobile operator, added 2.85 million mobile users in December taking its total subscriber base to 118.9
million, data released by an industry body showed.

The country's third-largest mobile firm Vodafone Essar, controlled by Vodafone, signed up 2.79 million mobile users in December boosting its total to 91.4 million, the Cellular Operators Association of India said on its website.

NEW DELHI: Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom) on Friday said it added 2.8 million new wireless subscribers in December 2009.


The company added 2.8 million wireless subscribers across GSM and CDMA platforms, RCom spokesperson said.

NEW DELHI: Tata Teleservices (TTSL) has added 3.3 million subscribers in December 2009, becoming the number one operator in terms of subscriber
addition for the fifth consecutive time.

The dual technology (GSM and CDMA) service provider said in a statement that the company has become the number one telecom operator in the country for the fifth consecutive month in December, in terms of new subscriber additions, adding more than 3.3 million subscribers in the month.

With the new additions, the company has overtaken BSNL to become the fifth-largest telecom firm in terms of subscriber additions, with over 57 million subscribers as on December 2009. TTSL’s GSM service DoCoMo brand coupled with its CDMA brand (Tata Indicom) pay-per-second billing system recently catapulted the subscriber base of the company. Earlier, Idea Cellular had replaced BSNL from the number four position.

NEW DELHI: India's telecom subscriber base crossed another milestone in December to top 560 million connections even though there was a net decline
in the user base for the traditional fixed line telephones, fresh data released Wednesday showed.

According to the sector's watchdog Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), as many as 19.1 million new connections were added during the month to take the net subscriber base to 562.21 million and the tele-density to an impressive 47.89 per cent.

NEW DELHI: The Indian mobile service providers added a record 19.10 million users in December 2009, higher than 17.6 million added in November.
This is also the highest monthly growth recorded by any telecom market ever globally.

Tata Teleservices led the December additions with over 3 million new users beating Bharti Airtel for the fifth consecutive time to maintain the leading position in terms of monthly subscriber additions. Bharti Airtel added 2.85 million users, according to figures released by sector regulator, Trai.
