While the Indian consumer waits for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift launch, the company Maruti Udyog Ltd. has reported a better-than-expected 65% rise in profits. The reports are for the last quarter and much of it can be attributed to the cost cutting measures taken by the company in the recent days. The company also increased the prices of their models little bit, which also contributed to these growing profit numbers. The shares of the company rose 4% as a result of this good numbers and touched a seven-week closing high of 433.15 rupees in the Bombay Stock Exchange. Suzuki Motors of the Japan own a majority share in the company and sell some of the largest selling models on road in India today. Maruti 800 has been a crowd favorite for over 2 decades now and now Alto has replaced the aging model to become the number 1 seller in India.Maruti is often the first choice car for the first time buyer and this makes Maruti the most trusted auto-brand on Indian roads today. Their service network is unmatchable and the new model lineup is exciting to say the least. The company is soon going to launch its recently unveiled model Suzuki Swift in India and the prospective customer is eagerly waiting for it to land in the showrooms.Jagdish Khattar, Maruti’s managing director spoke to the media about this launch: “The diesel segment is growing and we are not in it yet, so that is hurting, but we will launch diesel engines by end-2006, and are also very bullish about the Swift.”

Maruti is the dominating player in the auto market in India and they are still not satisfied enough. The company has a collaboration with Suzuki and makes majority of the cars, which are sold here in the domestic market. However, growing competition means that they have to remain on their toes all the time and the company now has big plans to expand their operations in India to remain competitive and retain their edge around here.

The company is now aiming to enhance their production capabilities to manufacture around 1 million vehicles per year by 2010. With Honda and Toyota entering the Indian markets, they have to consider the potential threat their upcoming models can present to Maruti Suzuki in their primary segment of small and medium sized cars.

Maruti Suzuki has amazingly managed to dominate in two major market scenarios with their products. They are the largest automaker in the country and even better, they dominate the customer satisfaction ratings issued by the various market agencies. It is hard to do it being the market leader considering you sell so many vehicles in the market. However, for Maruti, it is not a fluke as they have repeated their performance for the sixth consecutive year.

The JD Power Asia Pacific Survey has announced their latest findings and they have placed Maruti as the highest rated automaker in customer satisfaction in India. Interestingly, this year’s findings had seven of the 11 carmakers improving post-delivery service performance. Hyundai came in second place followed by the American auto giant ford.

maruti is the best. proper work ethics and pretty decent products. even though it is from the old era it doesn't have the PSU company feel. it is professional and knows how to take care of its customer. only thing is that they should launch their new sedans in India. the baleno is too bland. the ignius would make a good entry in India.
