Hotwire, originally owned by Primus telecommunications has been taken over by VSNL. By the end of this month or so, speeds ranging upto 2mbps is coming out. Unlimited range. It's all ready out in Vasant Kunj in Delhi I believe. According to the internet dude I deal with, he says 256kbps unlimited will drop to around 700 bucks, 512 kbps initially starting off at 1500 I think. Not sure on the prices but it will drop. All ready I'm seeing massive spikes in my speeds.

thats good but has their reliability improved? last time i used hotwire it was run by PTIL itself and was as unrealiable as hell.

PTIL. Not sure who or what that is, but Hotwire has been very very reliable for me. 100x better than sify or bsnl in terms of scalability and reliability.

i dont think it wuld be unlimited :p.aksh had brought out unlimited 256kbps (unofficially was about 2mbps) packs in hyderabad, wich they had to stop after 3 months due to enormous dwnlds by everyone. and all packs were made limited and speeds were officially increased to 2mbps.even if they getting those 2 mbps packs rolling thr, chances r they may be withdrawn after a few months

the burst in downloads are only for a few weeks or months. after that everything settles down. nobody can pull GBs on GBs of data...Besides, I dont believe this guy one bit. Here no ISP is providing DECENT, AFFORDABLE, RELIABLE and PURELY UNLIMITED 0.25Mbit ( 256Kbps ) connection! How do you expect us to believe that we will get 2Mbps unlimited connection? You know how much 2Mbps shared line costs? Enquire with BSNL / MTNL! Its to the tune of lakhs of rupees PER MONTH and that too LIMITED to 30-60GB data transfer!

yeah max, I couldnt agree more. People just have time to waste & put up stuff that does not mirror reality. Let's face it, I dont even get a pure unlimited reliable 128 kbps connection either. The best SO far is 72 kbps which is what I have on pacenet...& I dont think we've seen any higher speed on any isp which satisfies all parameters of what a connection should have ----1. reliable = less than 1% downtime2. dedicated speed as promised 3. unlimited data transfer4. affordable (& not ridiculously priced, on par with the rest of the world)Now Sushubh will pop in & say....but look at our poverty , x, y, z factors :DI dont know why all our media keeps blowing the trumpet that we are one of the greatest growing economies & all the benefits that modern progress brings....when the hard fact is that our quality of life (forget the internet) is on par with some african countries...long hours of work for a salary that is out of sync with living costs, terrible infrastructure, polluted air, adulterated food, rampant corruption ...the list goes on & on. And we go on to vanquish agriculture under the guise of SEZ's.I read somewhere that delhi & bombay will become 2 of the top 3 populated cities of the world by 2015, & of course also be the biggest slum-cities. And 1 out of every 3 people will live in slums. Long live development! ;)

Get MTNL NU plan.... that way you can download at 256 kbps for 8 hrs. 1 GB should be suffecient for normal surfing / email in daytime.

And since uploads are free you can easily buld up repo in P2P.

hey netfreak, I am done with the p2p phase of life; I dont download anything anymore. The occasional new software release is not that frequent, so I dont need a lot of data transfer.Though I need dedicated voip for calls overseas at anytime of the day (even to actual phones). If the limit for mtnl nu was raised to say 5 gb for the month, then it would be safe. I cant risk the 1 gb limit & then get overbilled.

IMHO Airtel meets that criteria, so yes, there is one ISP, although it's not available everywhere.

MTNL
MTNL is supposed to provide good speeds but their CC is terrible. Their billing is from Pluto! So....I too wont risk taking MTNL...even if it is for a redundant line. I will jump at MTNL DSL the moment they come out with AFFORDABLE, UNLIMITED plans!
