SC extends 2G auction deadline till January 11, 2013 - India News - IBNLive

he Supreme Court has extended the deadline for a fresh auction of the 2G spectrum licences till January 11, 2013. The court has said that if the orders are not complied with, the court will issue contempt proceedings against the officers responsible.
"Exemplary costs may be imposed in the event of failure to complete auction process within the deadline," the apex court said.
The court has ruled that the existing licence owners can continue to operate till January 18, 2013.

Spectrum auction to start from November 12: DoT - India News - IBNLive

The Department of Telecom on Tuesday issued an 'information memorandum' containing details of spectrum auction which will start from November 12. Earlier, the Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the time for completing the auction of spectrum by January 11, 2013, from earlier deadline of August 31.
According to the information memorandum issued by the DoT, notices to invite application will be issued on September 28 for two different airwaves band used for mobile telephony and companies interested in auction will have to submit their applications by October 19.

DoT will first auction airwaves used for wireless telecom services in 1,800 Mhz band that are at present used for 2G GSM mobile telephone services.

The department will start auction process of 800 Mhz band spectrum, currently used for CDMA-based mobile services, two days after completion of bidding for 1,800 Mhz band.
 
Uninor to continue services in Mumbai following SC extension - The Economic Times

Telecom operator Uninor today said it may decide to participate in the upcoming auction to get spectrum for Mumbai circle and will continue its services in the financial capital following the Supreme Court granting an extension to operators whose licences were cancelled.

"Considering there will be a second spectrum auction in Mumbai and Telenor Group has stated that it may decide to participate in these auctions, Uninor's services will continue in Mumbai in line with the license extension announced by the Supreme Court," Uninor said in a statement.

The Supreme Court today extended till February 4 the January 18 deadline for existing operators of 2G spectrum to carry out operations. It also asked the Centre to spell out the price to be charged for continuing with their service after cancellation of licences last year.

Uninor, in which Norwegian telecom major Telenor holds a majority stake, was among the operators whose licences were cancelled by the Supreme Court in February last year.

The company said it will continue to scale down its operations in Kolkata and West Bengal.

"In the Kolkata and West Bengal circles where no additional 1800 Mhz spectrum auction is expected, services will continue to be scaled down as announced," it said.

The company added that in the six circles of UP (E), UP (W), Bihar and Jharkhand, AP, Maharashtra and Gujarat, the group has already secured a 20 year license and Uninor services will continue uninterrupted.



Telenor India unit to continue services in Mumbai after court order - The Economic Times


Norwegian phone group Telenor's Indian unit said it may decide to bid for airwaves for the Mumbai zone in an auction due in March and will continue its services in the city after the country's Supreme Court allowed more time for revoked cellular permits to continue operations.

The unit, which operates under Uninor brand name, said it will continue to scale down operations in India's Kolkata and West Bengal zones as planned earlier.
