Hi I am using 1mbps BSNL connectionI have only virus(mcafee with latest update) scanner. in my PC.Is it must to have software like firewall /spyware checker etc?what is the simple ways to prevent others using my bandwidth & machinethanks in adavance Siva
 
firewall is a must. antispyware and antivirus are also very crucial.u can try using combined packages like:zonealarm security suite or nortan internet security stuff...preventing others to use ur bandwidth and machine?requires common sense and knowledge of how things work on networks and internet.
 
make sure the software u use dont take a lot of memory otherwise it beats the purpose.....if u want u could do away wiht spyware scanners (ie u visit only trusted sites)u may install spyware chkers when u find suspicious activity!?but install them! better safe than sorry!
 
setup the firewall on the router. that should be sufficient. also make sure that you have a good anti-virus.

my bsnl modem firewall was already ON but ,well no diff !
