BSNL to launch IPTV services in Lucknow on October 15

Source: Televisionpoint.comThe Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) would roll out its IPTV (Internet Protocol Television services) in the Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow by December, 2008. The launch would be on October 15, 2008, and this information was given by Sunil Parihar, principal general manager, BSNL.BSNL currently delivers the most comprehensive portfolio of communication services and maintains the greatest reach of all broadband and wire line operators in India. "With the onset of IPTV services in UP region, it would add more value to its services as consumers of these IPTV would be able to access to three communication mediums of telephony, internet and satellite television from a single-point connection," said Parihar.Giving information in detail about the IPTV service, Parihar said, "In this service the TV channels are encoded in IP format and delivered to TV using IPTV set-top box, and offers key advantages over existing TV cable and satellite technologies. In this cost effective service, all the three services normal telephone service, broadband internet service, IPTV service work together."He further added, "The IPTV Service also includes video on demand services which is similar to watching video CD's / DVD's using a VCD / DVD player. The bouquet of TV channels and video on demand services would be available initially. Other services / content would be introduced progressively."Talking about the new and out of the box service of IPTV, Parihar said, "IPTV users would now be be given the facility to view their favourite TV programme anytime within 90 days of its telecast. This content storage facility would revolutionise television viewing in the country, allowing viewers not to bother about TV schedules, but view them when they wish to."
