BSNL Employees' Union against the telecom unbundling proposal

The BSNL employees union has opposed any proposal to unbundle the last mile copper cables of BSNL and MTNL and threatened to take 'direct action'. In a tatement, citing media reports, the union said unbundling of the last mile copper cables of BSNL and MTNL would enable the private players to make huge profit by utilising its infrastructure on namesake rentals.

The union called upon the telecom workers to start campaigning against the government's proposals and, plan to organise a day-long dharna on November 18, the statement said.

The government has to think twice before allowing the infrastructure of government PSUs for being utilised by rival companies, it added

Within one year of starting broadband services, 200 cities have already been covered by BSNL and more are in pipeline. MTNL is giving broadband connection in Delhi and Mumbai, the statement claimed.

Unbundling is what enabled countries to leap forward in the broadband connections and speed. Fcuking BSNL.

USA: Unbundling helped Covad and many many small DSL companies to use Ma Bell's copper lines to provide internet.

Korea: The Fiber Optic cable laid by the state telecom corporation was opened to competitors by the government. Every town has to have a min of 2 competitors. Avg speed of connections- 24mbit.

Japan- NTT's monopoly was broken in 2001. Before 2001, internet was even costlier than that of India. Now it is one of the cheapest in the world. 100mbit-42 $. 1 gigabit- 120 $. ( http://www.telecomasia.net/telecomasia/art...l.jsp?id=155263 - must read)

UK- British Telecom was forced to share its copper lines with competitors. Last month, dsl of 20mbit became available for those near the exchanges.

France: France Telecom shares its lines with competitors. 20mbit is cheaper than a 1 time buffet lunch there.

Spain- Same as france now.

When will the Indian government realize that all that bullshit talk of affordable cannot be realized without unbundling!

BSNL is a government company. A part of our taxes goes to support this company.

May be we should just wait until the latest telecom policy is finalized and brought into force. If they dont unbundle the local loop in this policy then maybe we should lodge a PIL in the court...
