Suddenly, since 15th of this month, I am experiencing severe connectivity problems in my MTNL broadband connectionI have called to complain on 1504 repeatedly and am assured everyday that something would be done, but nothing has changed in the last 6 days.Getting the connection is bad enough, but what is most frustrating is that there is sudden loss of connectivity. On going to 192.168.1.1, it shows, in status, under WAN, Virtual Circuit to be connected on Pvc1. I was told to make it Pvc0. On changing it to Pvc0 and then going to Home>WAN> it again shows Pvc1 which then again is changed to 0 manually by me and the WAN Setting is changed from Bridge to PPPoE/PPPoA and Configurations are changed and reboot effected. After that, as instructed, I have to go into TOOLs>System and settings are saved and rebooted. It works for a while after that, for some 20 minutes maximum or so, and then connectivity is lost again. Even the page 192.168.1.1 can't be opened.I have to disconnect the power chord and then reconnect it, and then again the above frustrating sequence has to be used to get connectivity for another 20 minutes or so, only to lose it again. Strangely, I find that it just doesn't progress beyond 21 mts continuous connectivity. Earlier it used to be absolutely fine and the screwup seems to have happened after the rains some two weeks back. Any help would be apprrciated. My machine is on XP- SP1

Simple advice. Call 198 (new helpline no.) Ask them to send a guy with a new router. Someone will show up the same day, or the next day....Ask him to set it up again, and wait for 20 mins (keep him entertained lol).

It's gotten worse for me in the last 3 days. Till Friday night, I could at least log in for 20 minutes, change pvc1 to pvc0, hit apply, save, reboot and so on and have it work for 18 minutes and some seconds (It turns out that my earlier estimate of 20 mts was optimistic ) and then loose connectivity again.I finally even disabled PVC1 and was able to remain connected for long, after resetting the modem (by pressing a pin in the socket next to the power chord) but suddenly from Saturday morning, I am just not being able to connect to PVC1Complaints to MTNL have not elcitied any response, they ask me by rote to check if various lights are working on the modem etc.Strangely, when I lost connectivity, I checked my DNS settings in My Network Places and found to my shock that these had automatically changed to:When I lost connectivity, I immediately checked it again and found to my shock that these had automatically changed to:85.255.113.13185.255.112.20I have changed these back to 203....etc but am still mystified as to how this change could have taken place automatically. Could this be some XP peculiarity or is it a trojan or something like that?My ADSL connection shows conncted, but the status shows pvc0 not connected now and even by going to ADVANCE settings and then to PPP, and trying to CONNECT PVC0 does not work.Would be extremely grateful for nny pointers/help.

Are you conecting the router to PC through USB? Otherwise, it would be difficult for trojan/malware to do something like that.

OTOH IP :85.255.113.131 seems to be located in "Belarus". Definetly suspecious.Do you have anti virus running on your PC? IF not then there are free (and legal) ones available on net, download one today.

Thanks, yes, my hunch was also about a Trojan/Virus etc. though I have Norton Protection enabled all the time. Perhaps I should run some good annti-spy programme once again, as this had me mystified. But atleast changing the DNS back to the original should make my system run -- I find that my PVC0 is just not connecting.Edit to add: Yes, I am running it through a UCB port. Perhaps I also need to switch over to a LAN card.

Ah, at least I am able to log in today, but as usual only for 18 minutes and some seconds for a while. Still beats what the cause for this could be. Been checking my DNS when I lose connectivity. It remains all right:203.94.243.70203.94.227.70But it disconnects. MTNL helpdesk is equally clueless about what this could be because of. All suggestions and pointers are welcome. Thanks for all your help.netfreak, are you also still getting disconnected? Strangely, am not able to log in right now on the page for account usage, as it says that either the user name or the password is incorrect, whereas I am filling in my telephone number and password as changed by me.
