I can see that BSNL provide a UPS along with FTTH connection.why? Does ONT modem require uninterrupted power? I don't have UPS and I usually turn off ONT modem with power switch..Is it ok?

I don't understand why BSNL gives a UPS with FTTH connection...

Does ONT modem should be kept always on?

ONT does not have to be always on.
But because it's also used for voice it's recommended to have a power backup for it.

BSNL does provide a UPS but they are 8-10 years old and their batteries does not hold charge for even few seconds.

So if you need internet/voice during power cut then you should use UPS else it's totally optional.

Thanks very much for your prompt response Rajneesh

BSNL website says modem cost as 11,500..That's another dilemma i am not understanding

@Joyous that is outdated price/webpage. Your LCO will charge you some installation charges and cost of latest modem device maybe in the range of 2-3k depending on wiring distance/cost to them.
