Cashless Payments: As next-gen spenders go cashless, eWallet scamsters, too, are getting creative

“They fooled the shop owners by sending fake ‘payment success’ messages to their registered mobile numbers. The messages were not sent from the Paytm server, but from their fake API,” said Dhanunjaya Vuppala, a forensic analyst who helped the Kolkata Cyber police in their investigation.

He receives a monthly payment of Rs 1,30,000 from students and some of them were showing their Paytm app with a green tick mark on the screen indicating successful payment. “But some of the money was not making it to my Paytm account. Now I ensure that I check my app before I let a student go,” he added.
