Got the ACT promo (100mbps 500gb for around 850 rs with tax and 0 installation). Its speed to non peered servers is just as worse as Hathway (around 10mbps max outside of speedtest). It gives ok speed in video sites like vimeo like Hathway too. I guess the only benefit over hathway is that it does not seem to do the file name resolution peering that Hathway seemed to do and pings are better. However, ACT did end up installing their switch box thingy in my house. Since they said it would consume only little power, i thought it would be an additional plug only but after the drilling and nailing wires, they said they have to connect it directly to the line. I hope it is safe. Nonetheless I've lost trust in ACT. Next time I'll take Airtel or local provider.
Anyone can confirm if the switch box battery thing installation they did is safe? I am really pissed off since the whole installation took a grand 4 hrs and damaged walls. I like that they have done a neat job but would have preffered if they just installed a wire and left like most ISPs, and later I could extend if I wanted.
ACT is nutty over banning almost every p2p site they can get their hands on, and looks like they monitor traffic too which site one is visiting as sites which were working fine for few days, in next 24hrs after discovering them they got blocked.
Also they add up lot of fake usage data already some threads are posted here..however they keep adding additional data at the same time to be in the news, they have added free 250GB data for cricket packs.
Can anyone with good working connection in ACT Delhi post tracert to foreign server like comcast.net ? @anant.del
Btw I'm worried if they are actually monitoring the sites you are visiting. I don't know which ISP you can actually trust in this country. I guess with Airtel you'll probably avoid getting a bad experience at least due to their routing.
@mayank yadav@anant.del Someone please post a tracert to comcast.net . I will try to pressure them to give connection through other backend if that is the problem. Else will give up on ACT.
Also very worried how ACT banned p2p sites by seemingly accessing user data. If ACT is as bad as Hathway in privacy, think I made mistake. Moreover I'm thinking Hathway or local service customer service would be more responsive than ACT.
@r19 You could use Windscribe or Zenmate browser add on to bypass the block. If they block it DNS level you can set up DNSCrypt and use the browser add ons to access the sites. I've posted instructions here on how to set up DNSCrypt.
So connection to vsnl and till 115.114.85.241 seems same, it only diverges after that, mine goes to Mumbai -> Marseille. I hope ACT can route my connection through however they are routing yours and others getting good speeds here. It pisses me off how they don't have 24hr customer care and nodal officers are off on weekends.
