seems similar to government asking for tax money on free services provided to bank customers if they maintain minimum balance.
the customer is not paying for it. why the heck should the company pay tax on that?

Government claims that direct tax collection increased by some 19%

If tax collection has increased why does it keep adding this tax and that tax?

It already has 19% more money than previous year - so its not like government is running out of money.

as i mentioned in another thread... i am kind of baffled with the fact that government charge 18% gst on donations.

i mean i get it, this particular case is of a donation but the service itself might come under the category where 18% gst applies. but it's insane that they collected around 42 lakhs for the two families and government would eat up 6 lakhs in the name of gst.

^ simple. they expect that once they charge tax, company would automatically start charing customers for those services. Just like its happening with plastic bags. they used to be free, municial corporationg (ghmc) started charging for them and so now shops also started charging for them

Will reward be tax free? Or there will be 30% tax (or gift tax) on it?
