Hi,

This is some strange stuff.

On chrome, when I clicked on a link, it took me to this page instead. It only happens when I left click the link. And it doesn't happen for every link.

http://203.94.248.63:3000/noti/?tm=...upta.com","categories":[0],"reputations":[1]}

On the top, which is the page title, I guess, it says :::Noti Manager:::

That I.P belongs to MTNL, so does anyone know what's going?

If you're trying to reproduce, here is the original link - https://www.quora.com/Whenever-I-sh...-razors-are-used-How-to-overcome-this-problem - I clicked on Website: Best Dermatologist in Green Park, Dermatologist Max Hospital | Dr Lipy Gupta. Also, this is not an advertisement, hope it doesn't come off that way, I can remove the links if it appears to be like that.

203.94.248.63:3000 looks like the MTNL PHOZECA ad injection.
Read here for details
MTNL (General) - MTNL Broadband is now injecting ads through Phozeca in browsing sessions

Just block mtnl.phozeca.com from your router or hosts file if you know how to and try navigating to the links you are stuck on.

Thats how these ad injectors work, your data will only come through after the ads content is loaded. since you blocked it, it prevents the rest of the page from loading.

I had similar issues with Nextra, they too injected ads at random, when I isolated and blocked the source, the page wouldn't load, I had to try a couple of minutes later for the regular page to load.

The only way to stop these is to use https as much as possible, it won't be able to inject into a secure page without compromising its integrity and hence being rejected out right by your browser.

install https everywhere so that the domains which at least support https gets loaded over https. most indian news websites are http right now which is a damn shame.

As a matter of practice, I use (1) https everywhere (2) no-script (firefox) or script-safe (chrome) (3 ) flashblock (4) privacy badger

Browsing has become a constant game of cat and mouse

Good that you do, it is always first and foremost your responsibility to practice safe browsing, better safe that sorry. (That just sounded like a sex ed lesson) 😀

i am struggling to load basic web pages here on a 25/50mbps connections. these lcos resell heavily and then do not do proper qos which means that during congestion times, you are better off on a shitty dsl than on an ethernet/ftth connection.

Yeah, thats the problem when idiots put saving money or rather earning the extra buck in the short term over long term reliability and quality. That is one of the major reason Airtel is where it is at right now, more expensive yes, but that is due to a reason, sadly they exploit you in a whole entire different way.

With all the unsafe ad-injection, who knows what cooties one might end up with. Yes, protection is key to a safe experience on the www

yup. the way things are, i would probably end up using airtel vfiber for regular internet and excitel for plain downloads.

good thing is that awareness for https has increased a lot in the recent years. a lot of popular websites with logical admins have switched to https. and more would follow as chrome starts showing insecure badge for http only websites.
