Gujarat asks Centre for Rs 31,000 crore special package | Ahmedabad News - Times of India

Gujarat government has demanded a special package of Rs 31,190 crore from the 15th Finance Commission on top of statutory devolution of funds and performance-based grants.
The state has also asked for an additional Rs 9,654 crore to compensate the excise loss incurred due to liquor prohibition.
Demanding Rs 23,720 crore extra to control land degradation, the government has stated that 52.3% of the state faces severe land degradation and desertification — the worst in the country after Rajasthan.

Gujarat: Schools ‘ready to defy’ Navratri holiday diktat, government firm | The Indian Express

Even as Education Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, on Tuesday refused to budge on the decision to declare seven-day Navratri vacation for schools, calling it a “mature” decision of the state government, associations of private schools in Saurashtra and Surat said that they would defy the government’s order if they get support from the parents.

At least 400 schools in Rajkot and over 800 in Surat have decided to protest against the government’s decision, saying that it would affect studies.
