Some guys on this forum are suggesting to use port forwarding to use torrent and P2P programs. But I read somewhere that the MTNL router doesn't block any ports. I get a decent speed in bearshare and limewire. Also I started using a Bit comet yesterday but the average speed I got was 10 KB/s during the night. Is this because my ports are blocked or because there were only a few seeds / peers available. Is anybody using torrents and p2p programs without any port forwarding? Also is there any change required in the windows firewall?

dude... good u posted this... even im gettin only that much.. im frm andheri west... i was getting much more before... we shud actually get much more... dunno wat to do...

Port forwarding is for incoming connections, so it shouldn't affect your download speed in any way. In P2P services, if the host taht you are downloading from itself has a low upload speed, then your speed is going to be low regardless of your bandwidth.

u don't need any port forwards for p2p or torrents...i myself am using them without any port forwarding...i get around 29.5 kBps average...speed is directly proportional to the peers u're connected 🙂

well, not exactly!!!but like in Limewire, u've got a "direct connect" option...in Ares, u can maximum connect to a peer and browse his stuff and if u like something, download it from there...that's it...u can't choose and connect each peer for any given single file...

try reducing your upload speed in the torrent client to 70-75% of ur max upload speed. For TriB NU the typical upload speed is around 200 Kbps or 25 KBps....reduce it to around 16-17 KBps...and see if u get an increase in ur download speed. Other than that it could also be the no of peers/seeders u r connected to.

i dunno guys if im right... but what iv observed.... bitcomet sucks n azureus rocks.... azureus is a sexy advanced bittorrent software... it gave me much more speed than bitcomet... now it might be luck today... but wen i was dllin a torrent yesterday thru bitcomet it dint gimme ne speed... but with azureus it rocks... plus azureus does require port forwarding(cause wen i ask it to check thru its nat/firewall tester only the forwarded port shows ok!)....... it has this another awesome feature of installing pluggins... i think its ultimately ie n firefox comparison... n the graphic made by azureus to depict the swarm is just awesome....trivisingh....... seriously try installing azureus 2.0.3.4 n tell me if im right or if it was just coincidence what i observed...

in torrent i get speed's like 25 to 30.I donot use P2P.and no u do not need port fwding.Does any one uses bitlord.this software is too good 😛h34r:

torrents does require port forwarding for good performance .. AS said above use azuereus connection wizard to see if u get nat error .. Azuereus is a very good torrent client but only bad thing abt it is its memory usage (java :lookaround: ) so if u have good 256 mb or more ram then it should run very fine or u can use some lite torrent client like ziptorrent or bitcomet tooo .. but forward ports in ur router

dude... bitlord is a software for dummies..... azureus has awesome customization.... u can add plugins n wat not.. sexy graphs n statistics.... n.... even torrents are p2p

there are clients taht do work better than azuereus without eating more than 50 mb ram and showing all the eye candy 😛

I do not eye candy
I just want bloody speed n download.
Which i get frm bitlord.
azuereus is good.
BUT
i run several other app. side by side so overall system performence goes down.
where bitlord it takes only 10-20 mb of my RAM.
B)

actually if u want a client which is not only lite but also has the performance, customizations & functions like AZ use utorrent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😛
