There Is One Big Problem Which Dth Industry Suffers From That Is If You Invest In Digicomp Or Hardware Of A Service Provider We Can Take Service From Hardware . Should This Be Not Like Mobile Phones In Which We Can Change The Service Provider At Our Will And Our Hardware That Is Mobile Remains Same . In Mobile The Mot(ministry Of Telecom) And Trai Are Studing The Number Convertibility In Mobile By Which We Can Have/ Keep Same Mobile Number Even Though We Might Change The Service Provider.

So Why Can`t We Have The Luxary Of Changing The Service Provider . For Example If I Am Using Tata Sky And Wish To Move To Dishtv Or Sundirect Or To Be Soon Launched Reliance Bluemagic , In This Scienario I Have Throw My Dish Anntenna And Digicomp To Trash And Invest Again , So I Put Forward This Idea For your Valuable Suggestion And Views . Hope We Get Trai To Think About It.
 
i think it can be done with some type of cards like we have in mobile,but they wont do it.
 
Mobile and television are two different beasts. In the case of television (cable, DTH etc), the operator might offer specialised services for which he might need to provide advanced STB's. If you force interoperability, it will only work on the lowers common denominator basis. A better idea is making them provide the STBs on rent. If you shift operators, return the old STB and get a fresh one from the new operator.
 
Ya. Like mobile phones, we should have DTH in the same way.But I want to know, in foreign countries do they have this type of system ?
 
There is an Indian Standard for STB. IS 15377 : 2003"General requirement: The STB shall be open architecture (non-propriteray) and shall ensure technical compatibility and effective inter operability amongst different DTH providers in the country."I think the STBs are interoperable if software is changed. Needs investigation.
 
Yes.This should be done.If so then I am sure rates will come down heavily.
 

@asdfgf , tech enthu... I have local PEHLA (LIKE TATA DTHin the middle east region) card which is interchangeable in any STB. no problems at all. just take the card and insert it will accept. it will read always. if u remove the card from receiver the signal will stop. insert same second display will be there Instantly.
