Guys, this is a possible solution for automatically connecting and disconnecting the net within the free time for the NU plan.

The remedy lies in changing the mode used by the router for login. To do this first we have to enter the modem configuration page. After that click on "home" on the horizontal set of tabs and then on "wan" on the vertical set of tabs on the left side. Next change the wan setting (fifth option from top) from PPPoe/PPPoa to bridged mode. Scroll down and click apply. Now pls read the update that i have posted on the second page in this thread and do whatever is said in that. Now u can log on to the net using a pppoe client which is inbuilt in windows XP.

Now to automate the process download and install any task scheduler which has the capability of dialing network connections. U can also use the default windows task scheduler but that didnt work for me and i use advanced task scheduler to do the job for me. It flawlessly dials at 12:05 AM and disconnects at 7:50 AM

also make sure ur time is in sync with the MTNL server time...it's a bit fast according to all my clocks and watches...i log off at around 7:54 am and it shows exactly 8:00 am...so just see what it is for u...just do disconnect once and see the exact time of ur PC and correspond it with the MTNL server time in the account usage page...u'll see the time difference...so set it according to that...i'll see if it works for me when i reach home...thanks for the solution mate :D keept it up!!!

That's quite risky, considering the great customer support you'll get from MTNL if you screw it up. Another solution to this problem, on the hardware side......is to get a simple timed lamp switch (shouldn't be that expensive.......and you can get it easily in Lamington road in Mumbai, dunno abt delhi.). Simply connect the switch between the power source and the router and program it to switch on and off and 00:00 and 8:00 respectively........On the software side, there should be a way to do this..... gotta try.........

Well, for P2P softwares you can start the download, and then quit the program. That way, when the program starts again, it will automatically resume the downloads.I dunno abt irc........

most download managers also come with schedulers to start and stop the downloading. technology is cool :)
