i guess gutenberg is the best for out-of-print and classics, and most other books without copyrights. of course, there are many other sources which are more current, but i don't think this is the place fro them, as most of them are not legal!

Amazon/Google/Flipkart and I am guessing even Apple have tons of free content available through their eBook platform.
