As per some reports coming in, the issue of Zero MDR for RuPay cards burnt a hole in the pockets of the card issuer such as Paytm Payments Bank, and their source of revenue decreased dramatically.
I personally believe that Zero MDR should be a thing if they want to move people to digital but zero MDR should only be brought when there is a government/multi-party independent not-for -profit transaction handler with massive backend support rendering Paytm or any other "sole" payment merchant a fancy GUI with UX/usage perks.(In a simpel view, things might be more complicated than that)
I was making a payment using Paytm bank today at the fuel station and after putting in the code, rather than making the payment it initiated UPI reset (which I never set in the first place for Paytm bank). Leaving me with no option but to use some other bank to make the payment via UPI. Bear in mind that it actually worked half an hour before all this to make a Rs. 20 payment.
I was trying to avoid small charges on my statement by using the balance I have in my Paytm bank account. 🤷
