I've been using bsnl broadband for many years and I just moved to another city and got a bsnl landline here.
When I went to their office to apply for broadband, they said that it is now mandatory to get their modem(costing 1500) in order to get a broadband connection. This baffles me, as I never heard of this shitty policy before. I've been using my own modem for years. Does anybody knows if this actually is a new policy or are the exchange guys are just trying to sell me their crappy modem...

They probably now have excess modems!

You are free to use your own. May be they want to take commission from modem sale.

I talked to the customer care, a couple of hours ago and they also said that there is no such policy and asked me to go to the exchange once more....
Gonna go there first thing in the morning and see what happens...
