I tried accessing Xmarks to see some previously synced bookmarks but the page shows a message "this site is blocked by department of telecom (DOT)"This is very surprising because Xmarks is a legit website and they have nothing to do with piracy. Until today I thought only websites with pirated stuff gets blocked.Does anybody know why?

Vimeo and Pastebin have been blocked though they have nothing to do with pirated digital media. Blame Reliance and how they are able to mock the Indian judicial system with their John Doe lawsuits.

by the way, what ISP are you talking about? i would imagine reliance?

----------

of course. all the blocks are being operated by reliance from what i have seen. and smaller isps that are probably using their international gateway are also affected.

----------

never mind. he is on airtel. and it is blocked at my end too. i am using their browser extension which has not shown any error till now so i thought it was working at my end.

----------

xmarks.com does not load. Xmarks | Bookmark Sync and Search loads.

Xmarks.com is blocked on MTNL Dolphin3G network as well but it is working on Vodafone 3G network. Our country has clearly gone to dogs. 🙁

i am wondering if airtel is using reliance gateway at my end to load xmarks.com... 😕

----------

any reliance user here who can confirm if it is working on their connection?

I wonder what the GFN TRAI/DOT doing ? Arent they the ones who are ought to keep eye on things like these ?@chromaniac Its always that Flagtel involved , whenever something gets blocked

Blocked on Reliance Wiredline. What is this exactly about? From the description i can see its just doing a sync of ur bookmarks across browsers? Does it even have any media hosted there?

flagtel is owned by reliance right?

Trace will always reach the destination as it uses ICMP echo request not http. Flagtel (Rel. London) is also not responsible.
But as soon an http request reaches/queries 115.248.224.97 it's matched against Reliance's Netsweeper database. If it matches, it's blocked.
The http request concerned, doesn't reach any other IPs: Flagtel/etc and you get the default DoT page which is hosted on/at 155.248.224.97 under Netsweeper config.
Now, any fool working under Reliance with Netsweeper username + pass can block any website he/she wants and we're the ones who have to suffer.
They're showing us users how effective Netsweeper can be for blocking/filtering content... and now have a "Powered By Netsweeper" Logo on the DoT page.
(Concession on product placement?)

wtf? is happening on MTNL they have started blocking now too torrent sites 🙁

First, speeds throttling by Airtel and Govt cannot do anything. Then, blocking of website by Govt (DOT) and nobody can do anything.Thankfully, this forum helped me open my mind (and my wallet 😀) towards VPN and Seedboxes. I am always ready to deal with these kind of situations.Btw, do we still have rights to breathe or has our govt banned that too?

not MTNL, RELIANCE (115.248.224.97) aka Donkey Kong IP

A different route (void of Rel.) reaches just fine:
