I forgot to mention it earlier. But the installation person told me that they were planning to replace the current generation remotes with universal remotes in the coming months. He sounded like it would be free replacement for customers. Let's hope he is right.

That would be good!

great months have passed by. airtel is now highlighting the universal remote offered with its DTH service through a brand new television ad. but there is no universal remote for their IPTV customers. what a disappointment.

I recently installed Airtel's IPTV (i.e. Airtel Interactive TV) at my home.
They gave me a new remote, which has two switch off buttons, one for the STB and one for the TV which is nice. But the bad part is, even the guy installing it does not know how to use it.
If anyone can tell, it would be great.

Also, the delay in changing channels is 3-4 sec approx

Well I got my IPTV installed day before yesterday, and I got universal remote, and installation guy himself 'taught' it for using all the buttons as they should. Its working wonderfully 🙂

ooh nice. post a photo of the universal remote. 😀 i think most of us have that white colored piece of shit with extra soft buttons.

Any luck it the replacement of the Remote...I'm sick of keeping second remote by my bed just to switch the TV on/off

Are they expanding beyond the NCR region ? They have been carrying out trials for quite sometime now..Not just Airtel but any IPTV hasnt taken off at all...But anyone with news on Airtel's IPTV expansion plans ?

i guess they are not done testing around on our expense in delhi ncr region.

All,

I have got Airtel IPTV installed last weekend. The complete installation was done in just one day with IPTV and BB up n running. Timeshift TV is truly an amazing experience...which none of the current DTH provides...only with DVRs you have to record manually but here guys it is available by default.
The quality is pretty good, only feature which needs improvement is the EPG, kind of quite basic with very pathetic fonds and colors...also it lacks info on what the program / movie si all about....also while choosing channels / timeshift tv it is a tad slow but you get used to it....because once you start there is no lag time....All in All ...an amazing product touching the frontiers of technology.

All along the weekend, I also kept on wondering how to program the Universal Remote ( I Have got the same Universal Remote which currently Airtel is selling with its DTH - the black one) but today got to know on their website the programming mechanism... will try to set the same on my Sony TV as I myself hate to keep two remotes just for the sake of switching on/off the TV.

The mechanism btw is press OK and numeric 2 key on Airtel Univ remote - it goes in the learning mode. Then keep the source remote and Airtel remote around 4 cm apart and first press and release the key on Airtel Remote that you want to program and after that on the source remote press and release. After you are done press the OK key.

Lets try. The above procedure is mentioned on the Airtel DTH guide on the airtel website. The remote they have provided with IPTV is exactly the same.

Regards,

Any luck it the replacement of the Remote...
I'm sick of keeping second remote by my bed just to switch the TV on/off

All, The above solution works perfectly fine. I just programed 3 buttons on the Airtel Universal Remote from my Sony TV remote....Power, Mute and AV button. Cool.
