Hi, I have been using the modem WA3002G4 for about 7 years. I am looking to buy a new one. Please suggest some latest & best models based on your experience.

Thanks !

Can any one suggest please ?

Yes I want a wifi enabled one. What is this USB wired ? Is it powered that way ? I am looking for a wall socket powered. Thanks much chromaniac.

If you don't want to have a additional usb attachment function that router will also do fine. Just that usb can be handy at times especially in case of printer attachment or plugging a USB HDD to transfer a few files with the need of turning on computer.

Thanks rj27. Could you please eloberate the USB functionality ? I am pretty much new to this concept in modems. How can I transfer my files through HDD to USB without turning on the computer ? Please enlighten.

I think you got it wrong. USB functionality allows you to attach your portable HDD or pendrive etc. to the router, so that they can be accessed wirelessly over the network. This is useful in case when you have multiple devices like phones, tablets, desktop and laptops.

Many of us keeps movies,tv shows and data etc alongside the main pc and laptop. So you can just attach the drive and access that stuff on other devices by mapping as network. Though the functionality is pretty limited to speed constraints. Most of the budget routers offers read and write speeds of around 2-2.5 MBps while transfer files thus not good enough for transferring bulk of data worth quite a few GBs.

Best use of the USB port is to connect your printer if you have the regular one with no wireless connectivity. It becomes available to all machines on the network.
