I am currently on the 30GB 4mbps plan on BSNL which costs me around 1600 bucks I guess. 1445+taxes... BSNL starting random redirections mean that it is time to say adios. Quality of service is shit. Though I guess Airtel has gained some new nuisance like mandatory buying of router from them and so on... Ideas?

Nope, you can buy your own WiFi router. airtel uptime has been too good lately. Not a single downtime incident in months. But I guess that's the effect of my email to their CEO. airtel is not bad actually. You need to make a deal with the devil if you want uninterrupted service. I say get airtel 30GB plan just for browsing and use RCOM for downloading. Works out well for me.

Airtel has been forcing their own shitty hardware on new subscribers lately. Several folks have reported this nonsense on the forum.

Are you sure it is mandatory ? How much Airtel charge for their router ? Tell them you already have an equipment. Must be a sales guy's trick to sell modem as well.

That is definitely a retention plan so does not apply here.
You said you were going to request disconnection in 1 month.
Edit: Oh that was some other thread. If it's just a backup line like mine, then might as well request disconnection and get a retention plan.

Shifting to Gurgaon from Delhi in next few days. Just got a new Airtel connection in Gurgaon. The 8 MBPS 80 GB plan. Connection was installed couple of days back and came with a free D-Link 2730u router. You could choose from Beetel or D-Link, so I opted for the 2730. So far all looks good. Have not had any major issues with Airtel since 2003 at my Delhi residence, except for the FUP crap.

can u tell me what kind of speed u see to NY? i am looking ot get an aritel conn too ..mtnl is too troublesome with their crap routing.

Getting constant speeds over 8.5 MBPS, with D/L speeds around 1 mb/s. Haven't shifted yet so not tested the connection thoroughly, but what ever time I've spent there n used the connection, things seem stable with pings around 28-30 to closest server on speedtest.

wht plan r u looking for @kickass in Airtel.......

I dont seem to find any plan to rival MTNL's 8Mbps @Rs.1750 with 85GB FUP......

Whts the use of Airtel's 24Mbps with 30GB FUP?....... And Fiber is available in "Select Buildings".......
