Whats the purpose of this? Isnt this a step backward?

The whole point of ewallet is to do online transaction - for example through netbanking

Why would somoene want to go walk to the bank to load their Paytm wallet? i dont understand!

I doubt they would be catering to Paytm customers these days because of the rush. Check supported branches in the app and check with them!
