Phew. Three weeks with Tata broadband (FTTH) and I already miss my MTNL connection.

I'd saw an attractive plan of 80GB 8Mbps (512Kbps post FUP) per month for Rs. 1500 and decided to apply. Things were smooth as a guy came same day to collect documents. He assured that the connection would be up within two days.

Problem 1: He entered the address wrong on the form and as a result the process was declined. This I found after constant follow up post the 3rd day. Worse it seems they can't correct the details, and have to go through the process from start. Submitted the docs again and it took a week to get the connection (I had to call multiple people and even asked them not to install it before they assigned an engineer).

The installation was smooth and the speed was decent. Much better than the MTNL 1Mbps unlimited.

Problem 2: After two weeks of service I received a text that my address couldn't be verified and my services would be blocked. I was told to resubmit my docs (no idea how that helps).

I call up the cc and ask them to send someone to verify again but apparently they don't/can't do it online. I HAVE to resubmit the docs. I said okay and asked for an address to drop the docs. I was given a store location and it turns out they only deal with wireless stuff (they said broadband guys don't have an office). I call the cc again and they give address of a few more stores which all declined to take the docs.

Meanwhile my broadband services is blocked. I call up the sales guy but he's quit TATA. He gave me another guy's number who seems helpful and talks about resolving the issue but does nothing. In fact he does not take my call (I called him thrice over two days and it must have riled him up... And he insisted he's the guy to contact and he refused to give an office address).

I have spoken to cc at multiple escalation levels but apart from non functional landline numbers no help/resolution has been provided. (In one conversation they gave me an office address located at the other end of Delhi and I was like until you provide a name and number so that I can confirm that's the right place I ain't going. The CC manager disconnected the line at that)

I'm not even sure how to apply for disconnection. I guess I should reaply for MTNL (for all its faults they have offices where things can be sorted).

Thankfully I have not paid anything upfront to Tata. They can't send me a bill as my address is unverified. I hope I can keep the modem for the harassment.

Lesson: Avoid service providers without a physical office nearby.
