just wait for SSD technology to evolve and become affordable. Linux would boot in less than 10 seconds. Windows 8 might recover from a clean hibernate in less than 10 seconds as well.

Yeah, I check the price of SSD drives every time I go to Nehru Place to buy anything.Last month 40GB SSD was selling for Rs 4000. It was an Intel drive packed in a small box just like Intel boxed motherboards are. Box included brackets to fix the drive in desktop. Last year this drive used to cost Rs 7200. So prices of SSD are coming down but not fast enough just like broadband prices in India.

the problem with SSDs is that you need to be aware of the technical specifications. earlier generation drives might be cheap now but could have major issues. vendors might be selling units that might have been recalled in the international market. 😕 and recent models are going to be hell expensive. the safest best is to get a decent unit with good reviews from USA and use that as the primary hard disk that runs the OS and applications and use regular HDDs for storing data. i am actually more excited about the hybrid units that are launching in the market. regular HDDs with 8GB/16GB SSDs. your frequently accessed stuff is stored in the SSD area. the entire process is automated by the hard disk itself. i plan to get one of these whenever i buy a new primary drive for my system in the future. 🙂
