Huawei Ascend P1 LTE is India?s first 4G phone - Times Of India

Huawei, in partnership with Qualcomm and Bharti Airtel, announced Ascend P1 LTE, India's first 4G smartphone.Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 processor, the phone can handle high speed data on the LTE network and voice calls on the underlying 3G network using circuit switched voice fall back (CSFB) technology.

Huawei, however, has not yet revealed the price and availability of the device. Sources said the company would talk about price and availability within a few weeks.

Ascend P1 LTE is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and built-in Adreno 225 GPU. It runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It has 1GB RAM and 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960x540 pixels. The phone's primary camera can shoot 8 megapixels images.

Earlier this year, Bharti Airtel became the first telecom services provider in India to deploy LTE-TDD networks and launch 4G services in Kolkata and Bengaluru.

ok. how are the users going to be charged? 😀 mobile and 2g/3g to be serviced by one network and 4g by another network? this sounds freaking complicated. i mean they would have to offer 2g/3g data on the same plan considering LTE is available in very limited areas. 🙂

I guess same way as 2G/3G . It has to be the same provider essentially, possibly Airtel in the select cities.

but you have voice technology supported by their 3G networks. here they are going to switch between two different networks for voice and data. sounds like a crappy marketing gimmick to me.

Whatever... They might get some attention & sales, based on them being "first" and eventually others will come up with their models & these guys will be forgotten.

voice calls on the underlying 3G network using circuit switched voice fall back (CSFB) technology.

I translate this to "Will be on 4G, but will switch to 3G when making a call" . And assumption is accessing data while call will be 3G.

lol. considering airtel has 4g rights in only four circles... the whole point seems stupid to me. by the way, what happened to qualcomm's 4g lte licenses? last time i checked, only reliance had pan india coverage. and reliance would most than likely offer smartphones on their network (through whatever means necessary). so i guess airtel is just trying to save themselves the embarassement.

I guess they want as many customers possible in those four circles. Ofcourse, things will change with Rel. Infotel. Also, as usual national operator BSNL may spoil the party as well. No idea on Qualcomm, maybe someone else can answer.

weird. i thought both bsnl and mtnl have shown no interest in launching 4g lte services :\

Maybe I am wrong... I thought they were also going to launch at some point of time.

someone has posted on the forum about how they are asking for government's approval to not invest so freaking much on 4G LTE launch as they cannot really afford it 😀

Yeah.. Just googled a bit.. Seems Tikona/Aircel/Qualcomm/Airtel have split the states, with Rel.Infotel getting a pan India license.

well government had some issues with qualcomm so they were looking to sell their rights. i heard airtel was interested to get rights to more markets. not sure what exactly happened.reliance of course played a dirty game. created a shell company to bid for the rights and then 'acquired' it.

Has Airtel already launched Voice based & other mobile telephony related services on it's 4g network ?The following news article from *********** indicates 4g Mobile telephony launch in Bangalore, Pune & Kolkata on 18th October. Can't find anything related on Airtel's website, can someone confirm this

For some reason i'm not able to post the link: "TELEC0MTALK" directly !

Here another source: Huawei Ascend P1 LTE is India?s first 4G phone - Times Of India

and do not link to that blog or copy paste content. they start crying on twitter (copyright infringement etc etc). they run sponsored stories from airtel.

we were discussing it here.

Sorry didn't know, just figured that out after a little search on the forum & outside. Thanks
