Is Harsha Bhogle not under contract with ESPN Star Sports anymore? He and Gavaskar are absent from the commentary team in Australia. Gavaskar is an expert on NDTV and Harsha on CNN IBN. Harsha in fact is in Australia but not with ESS. Which is quite surprising because both were permanent members of ESS alongwith Ravi Shastri. Anybody know whats going on with these two?

Bhogle is doing commentary for ABC radio in australia...

Harsha,Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri dont have a contract with ESPN Star for the last few years ever since IPL Started.Sanjay Manjrekar signed an ESPN Star contract in 2009.Not sure what happened to that either.Wish ESPN Star had given the Channel 9 feed directly.Very boring and dull commentary by ESPN Star this time around.

Ravi Shastri is there for commentary? I saw only Ganguly in commentary box for the time I watched the match.

Did not know that. Actually even in 1991-92 tour he was doing radio commentry for ABC.

I am aware that they are now freelance. Its just that since 1998 tour Harsha, Ravi and Gavaskar have been regulars on all India tours to Australia. It was a pleasure to listen to them. Kinda missing it this time. And Wasim cant commentate to save his life! He has been a genius bowler but he is an ordinary commentator, maybe due to lack of fluency in English. Also missing Alan Wilkins 'Wilko' this time. He is a fun guy ready with a witty line all the time. Chappell is good as always. Saurav is a pleasant revelation as a commentator. His knowledge of cricket is second to none.

So far I have listened to Ravi Shastri, Sourav Ganguly, Wasim Akram, Tom Moody and Ian Chappell on this tour. On field interviews are done by Dinesh Chopra. Oh that reminds me, where is Gautam Bhimani? Cricket Extra anchor is some Jason de la Pena. Never heard of him.

Liked for this line

Im guessing he comes from sportscenter.

Ganguly appears to be lacking in confidence to me..he has a slowish stuttering start each time around..the fluency does improve as the day wears on though..used to like Boycott..but nowadays its rare to find him commentating on India's matches..

Thats was his first assignment as a cricket commentator...i had this feeling for the past 2 weeks that Bhogle may not do the commentary with ESS as in his twitter he keeps on saying that he is excited to do radio commentary once again with ABC radio...

Indeed he comes in sportscenter...

I wish they had Gavaskar, Bhogle and Manjerekar. Ravi Shastri is irritating and should limit himself to pajama Cricket.

Bhogle is with ABC Grandstand. Its commentary is available online on its website. If you have a smartphone you can download a free app called TuneIn Radio and add ABC Grandstand to it.

Manjerekar I believe is with Channel 9. Channel 9's commentary team is no good either with people like Mark Nicholas. Most Aussies seem irritated with its commentary and have been watching the game muted with ABC's radio commentary on (which has earned good reviews).

The biggest problem I have with ESS's coverage is the absence of speed guns. Manjerekar tweeted the other day that ESS guys have told him that they were working on it and that it may take some time. This sucks. They should have sorted this out before the start of the series. Also, they seem to be lacking a few techs that Channel 9 has - like the "Rotator" which shows the no. of RPS on a spinner's delivery.

An interesting thing I noticed today was that Channel 9 and ESS showed slightly different trajectories for Cowan's dismissal. Are they using different service providers? - Hawk Eye/Virtual Eye/Eagle Eye. I am not sure.

Mark Nicholas is one of the best commentators in the world. He speaks excellently and is very knowledgeable having played and captained in English county cricket. He is the only regular non aussie commentator in Channel 9's team. They include one commentator from the country which is playing against Australia. Like Iam Smith was on their team during the latest Aus-NZ series. Rest all are Aussies.

A lot of people have a very different opinion of Mark. Wasim is very knowledgeable as well. I don't rate him as even a very good commentator.

The reason Wasim is a bad commentator is his lack of fluency in English. I agree that being knowledgeable doesnt make a person a good commentator. Otherwise even Kapil Dev would have been good. One needs to have command over the language and the ability to engage in conversation with players when interviewing them. Mark Nicholas is good on both counts. I have seen him perform the role on Emcee in annual ICC awards and he was excellent. I love listening to him whenever he is on air. He is much better than the biased and hysterical Aussie commentators like Bill Lawry and Tony Greig.

A lot of people have a very different opinion of Mark.

Ever since he took over anchoring from Richie Benaud at Channel 9, he thinks he is actually as good as Richie. Richie Benaud is a legend & no one can replace him in the world of commentary! He should just be anchoring that's it, his commentary is indeed irritating at times.

Overall Channel 9's commentary is still much better than most. The standard at channel 9 started declining when they started giving the current batch of retired cricketers more airtime and less to the legends. Ian Healy is OK, but at times he makes it too complicated with his so called technical expertise tips/analysis. Michale Slater is OK, at times too much biased towards Australia. Mark Taylor is good. The best of course are the legends...the old timers, Ian Chappell, Tony Greig(i don't know why some people hate him), the one and only... Bill Lawry and his famous line..Its all happening right here at... 🙂 and lastly the grand daddy of all..Richie Benaud!

Bill Lawry is the one of best. Do you even know how long he has been commentating? More than 30 yrs now. Yes he always wants Australia to do well, but unlike some other commentators, doesn't let his feelings affect his commentary. He always calls a spade a spade! Got Him, Its all Happening, Bang, Clean as whistle, these are terms which will go down in folklore of cricket commentating. Aus-SA 1999 world cup Semi final, Bill lawry and Mike Procter on air during the last over. One of the most electrifying clips, thanks only to one and only Bill Lawry.

Tony Grieg would be the last person you would call biased in favor of Australian team! He is always accused of supporting the visitng teams. I have been following Channels 9's coverage of cricket since the 90's.
