wondering if the filters for the two models are compatible with each other.
i do realize that this one uses a more advanced filter. just wondering what would happen if they stop selling the older filter in the market.
i am tempted to get this for my personal use. the older model is currently placed in parent's room.

weirdly they only have one type of filter listed on the website at the moment:

Mi Air Purifier Filter - Air Purifier - Mi India

this is what i ordered for the 2 model. i cannot seem to locate any information if the same filter is to be used on the 2S model.

i guess they would add the filters for the new model in coming weeks?

getting a response from xiaomi india social accounts is pretty hard from my experience. have sent them a mail. would post if they give a clear answer.

so from the reviews i have read about this product... two things make this a not so great product to purchase.
  1. Mi is using a laser sensor on this model. Which has a limited life. So after around 1000 hours or so of usage, it would lose efficiency and would start misreporting pollution levels. This could adversely affect the efficiency of this model. Since it has a display that continuously shows you pollution level, the smart thing to do is to keep it disabled and use the app to monitor the levels when required.
  2. Mi is now including RFID tags on the replacement filters. They say that the tag would ensure that you do not get fake replacement filters. BUT... It also means that you cannot reset and continue using a filter which the device believes is no longer useful. From what I read... The app would keep on nudging you to replace the filter once it decides that it is no longer working properly. Even if visibly it is nowhere close to a stage where it should be just dumped.

So, I had sent a mail to Mi Support asking them if the filter for 2 and 2S models are same.

This is what I got in response.

too tired to check what happens if i use an older non-rfid filter on the new model.

there was huge gap in reading of the two models when placed together. from what i have read... the sensor on the older model is not much accurate.

anyhow... i cleaned it up and installed it besides my workstation.

if anyone has any questions, i can try answering them!

PS: Mi Air Purifier 2 is supported by Alexa. I do not think Mi ever highlighted that feature. I just realized it today.

the sensor on 2s (at least mine) seems to be shit. dad's room is one of the most locked rooms in the house and 2s keeps on showing high value for it. took the older model and values appear normal on it.

looks like i would invest in a dedicated sensor.

info shown in screenshot above is visible with old mi filter also. Plus i got alexa enabled on old mi purifier.
plus got 2s for friend in 7k during "first" flipkart sale.
