Hi,Is FULL HD TV useful in India? I mean with Blue Ray disks still holding expensive in the market, do we really need 1920 X 1080p resolution? Are the HD Channels available in India broadcasted in 1920 X 1080p?Secondly, how are Toshiba LE TVs? Price for sure is comparitively low against Sony, LG and Samsung. I could buy a 40" FULL HD LED TV from Toshiba vs only a 32" FULL HD LED SONY BRAVIA for the same cost.I searched through the topics already posted in the forum, but could not get answers to above question. Thanks,Sundar

people do not only use television sets in india to watch cable. a hd tv can be used to play blu-ray movies, play games on PS3 and Xbox 360. you can of course also watch movies using a digital media player in whatever resolution it supports.

If you got the bucks, get it.You won't realize it's utility unless you own it.

I don't think there are any 1080p channels even in USA. They use either 720p or 1080i.Like others mentioned, cable is not the only thing for which you'd use a HDTV.You can use it to playback HD content using BluRay Players or HD Media Players or XBox 360 or PS3. A lot of TVs have movie playback functionality via USB which will let you play HD content. You can also use the TV for gaming. So yes, a full HDTV will be useful even in India if you can also buy a HD DTH connection, a HD media player to play HD content and/or a gaming console. Without any (one) of these additional gadgets, I'd say it's a waste.

the max resolution on ps3 and xbox 360 in games is 720p and in newer games it sometimes goes down to even lower resolutions . the only real use for a full HDTV is to play blu-ray movies or use it as a monitor if you have a powerful PC on which you can play games on 1080p or even higher . if you're buying the TV now then buy a full HDTV as in an year or two new consoles will come out and they will support 1080p in games(hopefully) .if you have an HD ready TV right now then there is no need to upgrade unless u download/buy a lot of blu-ray movies/tv series .

Thank you all for your comments.

BTW, my question about FULL HD TV was in comparision to what is called a HD Ready TV that i understand support till 720p.

Reading your comments, i believe my 29" CRT TV is almost enough for my usage. I dont intend to buy PS3 / XBOX or blueray aynytime soon. My addition intension was to see any HD Channels. If we dont have 1080P Channels, then i may go for a HD ready TV instead

Any comments on Toshiba LED TV will help.

BlueRay needs to get cheaper to get popular in my mind.

We dont have 1080p channels. But atleast we have 1080i channels. Its still worth the bucks u spend. On which company to go for, of what specs i had seen till few months back, Samsung & LG shud be the preferred brands on any day. They are the first companies to use LED technology commercially, and they give u really good products. Further still, LG & Samsung are almost on par when it comes to specs, but LG is a notch ahead, as it has marginally lower pricing compared to Samsung. And lastly, apart from the utilities given by others, i wud add 1 more - PC connectivity. U can directly connect ur PC to the TV & enjoy Movies/Games/etc on it.

HD channels are 1080i if i'm not wrong which is not that far off in quality as compared to 1080p . if you're buying a TV right now then buy a full HDTV so its future proof for atleast another 5-6 years . if you're buying a TV which is less than 40 inches then buy an LED otherwise as screens get bigger plasma outperforms LED as most sanely priced LED TVs are edge lit and don't provide the same picture quality as plasma if screen is big . local dimming LEDs provide great picture quality but are very expensive when compared to plasma TVs which provide the same picture quality .

I don't see the point of buying a 32 inch 1080p TV. You'd find it very difficult to even notice the difference. If you are buying 40 or more, it makes sense.
