i-ON 1Gbps Plan Review

yup.. its normal now. google fiber test is a better way to judge speed. they have tons of bandwidth.

I am planning to get i-on internet 1 gbps plan. They are offering a router for Rs. 2200. Any idea which router does ion provide?

Also, how do I ensure that they give me airtel routing and not tata routing?

you are better off buying your own router. they will mostly give you the shittiest one possible !
also they wont give you a routing of your choice. you have to make do with what you get. the situation is better now on tata.

Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy the iON 1GBPS connection, with monthly rental of 999 INR and Data limits of 200 GB per month.

A couple of questions which the customer care/sales team is unable to answer:-

1) How is the overall uptime for iON ? Are the speeds/latency good ? Should I go for this 1GBPS connection ? @krish_88 @-=[RedAlerT]=- @kickass

2) I will be usually connecting to a VPN server based in Singapore, so while reading your posts, I found that most of the time, the routing is bad .. Can I ask for a AIRTEL routing while opting for a new connection?

3) Is the plan an FUP plan ? or after 200 GB, I cannot use internet? or do I need to pay for any charge per GB after that ?

4) @kickass - you mentioned in an earlier post to buy a router on our own, any recommendations for 1GBPS plan .. which router to buy and from where should we buy .. is Lamington Road a good option or any e-commerce website ?

Thanks in advance and awaiting for a feedback from you experts on my points above.

Cheers,
Naveen [netizeen]

1. uptime is quite good atleast for me. goes down 2-3 times a month for hr or so. speeds are always spot on unlike mtnl. 1gbps is useless cz u will never get that speed even on torrents or anywhere else. instead stick to unlimited plans
2. speeds are decent to singapore/usa . 200+ms to sg and 140-150 to usa latency. never had any issues with speed though. u cannot ask for specific routing
3. 1gbps is not unltd. go for unlimited . u wont have to worry about usage then. u can stream youtube in 4k even on 20mbps
4. router is the usual wifi one. what u need depends on how big area u need to cover. lamington is fine. look for deals online. there are a couple of threads here on router.

Thank you so much for your prompt
Response.
Even I am thinking to go with their pure unlimited plans for 30 or 50 mbps bandwidth. The sales team ensured me that since its a FTTH connection, the losses are low and hence I will usually get full bandwidth.
I have limited options in my area and iON seems to be a better choice.

Since, last month i have been facing lot of downtimes, either their fiber gets cut or they usually say some issue in vashi. If there's a Fiber cut, There's no internet the whole day, no matter what , it will come only the next day or thereafter.

If you are looking for a 24/7 stable connection, my suggestion is to refrain from ION, but then it again depends from one area to other.

Today, The ION team promised to give me a Fiber Optic connection and ensured that i won't face any problem in the future, but i don't think i will go by their word.

My plan will expire this month, I don't think i will renew it further..

Yeah, I agree, I found resonating response on their downtime/availability.
Indeed I am looking for stability since I will be doing my official work from home via VPN, I was using hathway and I think they went down only once or twice a year... in the current situation, I have only 2 options
1) Local cable operator
2) iON

The local cable operator cannot provide high bandwidth and I am concerned about their contention ratio.

Again not sure if we were to compare the local cable operator internet quality, which one would be a better option.

What do you guys suggest ?

A: I've had NO downtime since monsoon started.

2) I will be usually connecting to a VPN server based in Singapore, so while reading your posts, I found that most of the time, the routing is bad .. Can I ask for a AIRTEL routing while opting for a new connection?
A: Latency to Singapore is high 100~150

After 200GB > Rs.5/GB used

New update:

They have started allotting public IPv6 addresses. (No need to request, by default you get one if your router supports it) So, I got one and hosted a website on port 80. Proxied it via Cloudflare DNS with AAAA record and its working. Looks like they have kept all the ports open on the IPv6 address.
