Hey guys,I was using Reliance wired broadband till now. However, as I shifted from Mugapeir, Chennai to Thiruvanmiyur Area, Chennai due to unavailibility of Reliance wired broadband in the area I was referred to another person who told about wimax thingyy!!So I was wondering what you guys say, because in this area BSNL broadband is present however I am apprehensive whether even Airtel is available or not (though I have requested for connection, lets see )I read some threads on Wimax and well I was confused because some rated it good and some bad, so I was wondering anyone here from Chennai using Wimax (specially someone from Thiruvanmiyur area here), please help me telling how is the overall quality of service ??Please guys help me out 🙁

Your first preference should be wired. If it's not feasible, then only opt for wireless. I say go for BSNL broadband. Buy your own modem. You might also wanna consider BSNL 3G as an option. But, it disconnects after continuously downloading 400MB. Then you have to reconnect. 😕

@himanshuaieeeGet Reliance WiMax via UVR connectivity via BTS Tower if they provide for strong signals else go for WIRED.

flame whats UVR connectivity and whats does a BTS tower actually mean??

@himanshuaieee

Get Reliance WiMax via UVR connectivity via BTS Tower if they provide for strong signals else go for WIRED.

Well I opted for Reliance Wimax connection eventually, they installed the Antenna via they were some BDS tower, its good that the tower is just 1 km away from my house indirect line of sight (pretty visible),
however I am getting signal strength as 22 and in the wimax modem it shows Max Signal Strength (CINR) to be 24 and the worst part I am getting only 512 Kbps speed half of 1 Mbps (the plan what I have opted)

Well I have called them, and they are supposed to come(bitches also installed antenna on house`s lamp rod, and my house maintainance person was going nuts so they will also come up with a new tower/rod as well tohold up the antenna in place bringing it up in more of line of sight of the tower); I hope and I will personally see(by staying there to get the signal strength to be 24 around) and I get the promised speed.

Also the DNS they set on was proxied as well, so I was not able to open BwT and DT and sites alike, however a thread at IBF helped, providing me a DNS values which I replaced to get the site working.
Now I am awaiting my speeds to be improvised.

Tell me one thing guys what upload speed do they provide on 1 Mbps plan, I am asking this because i need to upload a lot on my trackers 😉
The sales person was telling that I will get 512 upload speeds only(is it true for Wimax or is he lying). Because on Broadnet connection I used to get full 1 Mbps download speeds and around 0.72 Mbps upload speeds as visible in my signature.../

Looking forward to your answers and tell me if any suggestion that you will like to give to me.

Well, the CC guy came today the put a new seperate tower and drilled it down!!They configured and ranged the tower to proper signal strength of 22 to 24.The speed issue was from backend, actually the backend guy thought I am on 600 kbps plan, however on intimation about me being on 1 Mbps plan he changed the setting and zaap I am back with the awesome connection which I was actually enjoying earlier, though ofc with wireless/ Wimax connection and StaticIP (avoiding any hassle of logging and getting logged out) . So lets see how the experience continues.Regards!! And thankyou all who helped!!

Himanshu, have u used this connection for gaming? And can you PLEASE tracert & ping these certain ips for me?220.226.181.82 - indian CSS server202.160.120.219 - SG css server202.156.3.186 - TF2 server (starhub)203.116.28.29 - frAGNETICS122.147.143.42 - taiwanese serveri'll be grateful if u can ping and tracert them, thanks!

What wiring they did from Roof to your Computer Fiber Optic or normal Ethernet cable? In static IP any RCOM irritating page opens while opening Browser for first time?

BTW can we configure Google DNS or OpenDNS with WiMax?

Base Transceiver Station (BTS) or cell site is a piece of equipment that facilitates wireless communication between user equipment (UE).

They installed WiMax on RF connectivity normally, if you tell them provide via UVR connectivity then you will get strong siganls from BTS. UVR mainly provided who need Leased line via wireless.

I am using OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220) with Reliance Wi-Max, works like a charm.

In addition to that, you can use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google's DNS Servers)

My WiMax installed and working good till now. On 12 db signal strength getting more then defined upstream and downstream. Still experimenting on my wireless receiver to gain some more height using water supply pipe 😀

I'm planning to buy reliance 600kbps wimax connection. Can someone tell me what upload speed can i expect? As reliance hasn't mentioned it.
