Fooled by Idea Adverts and In Phone Representatives

Hello, I am usally on roaming. While on roaming I have been receving text messages from your number "59723" which states that Welcome to high speed idea 3G network- Rajasthan. Roam across India on Idea at affordable call rates(with free incoming SMS)! Helpline no. +919887012345 Enjoy 3G experience across India on Idea! 3G customers can get High speed internet, Vidoe Calls and fast Download while roaming in Idea - Rajasthan. So in lue with all these messages I called up +919887012345 to enquire that If I am on roaming which recharge should I do to get the 3G speed in Rajasthan. He replied you can recharge it with 347. And that I did. Now when I am using internet on my phone, money from my talk-time is deducted. I called up +919887012345 to ask wheather my 3G plan is activated or not. Rep : "You have already used you plan." then they changed the story to Sr. Rep : "Sir you are roaming region, you can only receive this data services while you are not in roaming" So question arises if I cant use roaming region and my data services are cannot be activated how could I have used my plan completely. So your 1st Representative might be telling a lie Other question that comes in my mind is, If all the advert from "59723" are correct then your Sr. Representative is lying. In either case, my talktime amount has lost close to 100 Rs and 347 Rs recharge specifically for 3G is waste. I need Rs 347 to be reverted if I cannot use 3G data plans while on roaming as advertised by your "59723". Or I need my 3G on phone activated. RegardsVishwas Sharma

You were indeed fooled. No data pack works when you're roaming, at least in case of Idea.

Next time instead of asking the fools, check Idea's website. It has all the info you would ever need while using your connection. I have stopped calling CC. Whenever I need any info, I just refer the website. Trust me, that site is very informative and it is updated very frequently. Idea rocks in all respects (as compared to all other telecos). airtel is full of rude and arrogant people.

Every single teleco has this issue I agree, I have then checked all of them just in case I can switch to any network. But all of them are silent on data roaming charges. The only reference you can find is not in 3G roaming FAQ's but in Roaming rules and regulations. But here I am complaining about the malpractice and misrepresentation of services. and i think someone could be helped by reading about this practice.

Nopes I recharged it via Idea Site.

Write a mail to care.@idea.adityabirla.co.in . Mighty effective, it'll be. You'll receive a call back from one of their senior guys, and I doubt they'll want to loose a customer over 350 bucks The email address can be found on your circle's website

airtel 2g works in roaming free .3G also I think I can not remember now.aircel 3g &2G works free in roaming .Iam am sure as used recently.300-500 kBps in IDM download!!Voda 3G & 2G works free in roaming. using it now.MTNL 3G works free in roaming (it rocks in BSNL high speed network!)Using it every week few times.BSNL 3G & 2G works always free in roaming. damn it now they are as expensive as airtel/idea/aircel/voda etc. So BSNL 3g in the doghouse.Idea 3G not used in roaming. In AP it is ok. (home network)Docomo never tried it.

airtel 3g is not supposed to be free in roaming from what i have read and heard. they charge you per KB of data transfer i believe.

@ulyssesbsnl 3G, new plans are quite cheap, 270 bucks for a gb, and so on.

Good that you brought this to notice, this happened with me too. I wrote to idea they called me and also sent the following mail. I wanted to check 3G speed on idea so topped up with 103 while on roaming. But when I used internet my main balance over 350/- got deducted. I have been using Vodafone, Tata and bsnl on roaming. Vodafone gives amazing speed 5-6 mbps. Bsnl gives 1-2 mpbs and tata 3-4 mpbs. All work free on roaming i.e. the plan works. Unlike idea they have 3G n/w of their own in many cities and it seems data usage on roaming is free only if you select home n/w .I came to know that Idea donot have 3G network of their own in many cities, not even in Mumbai. I applied for mobile number portability now. The company is not wealthy enough to provide free roaming so it is worthless sticking to them. Also the speed is very slow (1-2 mpbs) in Mumbai compared to vodafone or tata docomo. Following is the reply from idea:"As per careful scrutiny of our recodes, we wish to inform you that you’re recharge of Rs 103/- has been successfully, updated in our system on dated April 23, 2012.We wish to inform you that GPRS usage has been done in roaming for your end, hence you have been charged accordingly to roaming plan as 10p/10kb."
