Hi guys! New here. I am confused about something so, please help me out. W

Well, the thing is, my service provider is BSNL and I had been using the modem they provided (the lovely SIEMENS SL2_141) for many years until last week. The modem stopped working and I'm pretty sure it's the lightning that caused it to get destroyed. Anyway, I got another modem: iBall Baton ADSL2 something and when I connect it to my Ethernet port (using the cable), the LAN lights won't turn on! There are 4 LAN ports in the thing and none of them work. But when I keep on trying each ports, one of them might work and the LAN would light up. This was not the case with the earlier modem 🙁 However, once connected there's no disconnection or reduction in speed. It works just fine. I'm very annoyed though, that I have to try each port individually and see if one of them works. It's such a pain! The first modem was not connected to the computer when the lightning struck. What do you think the issue might be? Is it something related to the modem itself or the Ethernet port (which is Integrated, Realtek GBE). Please help.
