ESPN HD now on Tata Sky

I was away from home and wanted to record the race. TS app for iPhone does not list ESPN HD, it is not listed even now :-(

well it still appears as Neo HD on android. lemme check on my ipod.

There is no choice for us now we have to deal with it during popular events...

And the commentators were very proudly telling, "For the non-HD viewers, who had an extended break, let us just repeat whats happened.....". So i guess they were torturing even more in the SD telecast.

midrace stuff jaymin. were u seein d race or listening to da commentary. 5.1 dont mean u miss the event and listen to these innuendos. the L shaped ads I can understand makes no sense to us premium users but the commentary folks cant be faulted for apologising to any part of the viewers.

C'mon, u r viewing sports, and u keep it mute? Or u listen to its commentary? V do have to keep the volume mute for some other kinda stuff, but why for sports?And actually i m not blaming the commentators as such......the situation was created due to the "malpractices" by the channel. And instead of trying to cover it up, they openly show the differences between HD & non_HD broadcast. May be trying to attract more viewers to HD, and then torturing everyone with numerous ads in HD feed too.

not arguing the idea. but a little food for thought: they are running a business after all. and decidedly so without indulging in such cheap tactics to garner viewership. if you sincerely look for it, you will still get needles in the haystack.

But i think there cud b a better way of advertising.....

Why should a pay channel show obnoxious amount of ads? If they show so many ads, they should be free to air.

I saw on the other forum that someone posted a screenshot that ESPN showed a reverse L shaped ad on HD .. this is so hilarious to say the least .. whats the use of HD if this is to happen ?? Some people earlier said that the L shaped ads can never come on HD what do u have to say now ??How many want to lay a bet that Ind - Aus series in December will be full of these L shaped ads in Star Cricket HD ??

well. the idea is this. HD/no-HD these people have to recover their broadcast/rights costs. The pittance we are paying for the so-called "paid channels" isnt working. Hence the ads. I have never said I love these ads. As gaurang puts it they are frankly hilarious. But they arent exactly doing you a social service are they?

Hi mate somewhat agree and disagree with you .. if they show us ads inbetween overs in cricket then its somewhat fine .. but when they start resizing the screen in a live play and that too in HD then whats the fun ?? Now, I will never beleive that they show ads just to recover costs ... if they are just to recover costs then showing ads inbetween overs should be enough and that too will fetch them good profits ... but when they start showing these L shaped ads or any other creepy crawlies in live play then that to me is GREED .. and tell u what all sports channels are greedy here in India because the I & B Ministry does nothing .. Please tell me which other country shows these L shaped ads in HD ??

If you see another angle, then these channels along with DTH cheated us .. How did they provide a big event like WC 2011 ad free in HD ?? they lured us and now are hammering us with ads .. seriously something needs to be done about this utter nonsense ...

Well of course the ad-free WC was bait. Did you seriously think you were dealing with saints? And how are you pulling DTH into it? They obviously have no control over what the broadcaster gives them.Yeah I agree the L ads are a monstrocity, but it cant be plain greed. If you note there is no damn "advertising" between overs. Its promotion of their own channel. the "L-shaped" are the first ads to appear on ESPN HD or for that matter Star Cricket HD. On the I&B ministry regulating the broadcast you are spot on. Can we really petition them on the grounds of ads on paid HD channels? On face-value the argument looks pretty flimsy as the provider will immediately get heaps of data suggesting that they are losing revenue by pricing the channels this low in the first place as compared to the rest of the world.

World Cup in HD was adfree coz it was event based and they are supposed to be Ad Free.They charge a bomb from the DTH operators for these channels and still show L shaped ads is a cause for concern.

Rajiv....I differ on that "own ads" thing on Star Cricket HD.They had started to show Docomo, ibm, Toshiba etc ads.And on Ind-Aus series, not only the L shaped ads will appear, but also the stuff below slip fielders feet & all will come.If all this continues, v can all boycott it, it will get less trp, meaning less advertisers wud b attracted & automatically v will have less ads!I have been telling this since long.
