Good 🙂

you bought it here in india? Dell has been selling ubuntu powered laptops internationally for a while now. this is the first time i hear about indian availability.

Dell probably does sell OS-less laptops but they are likely to be loaded with freedos. maybe they load it with some distro. in any case, i am not sure. 😀

maybe the office it dept got a laptop with no os and loaded ubuntu on it? 😕

Hmm, that might've been the case, or maybe it came with the OS and all my office guys had to do was configure it to company configurations. Can't tell for sure 🙂

nope i also have seen Dell notebooks and leveno in India with linux pre installed way back as 07 !! this has been going for a along time.

I remember helping my friend to look for a Dell laptop ( Dont ask why only Dell ) & coming across Linux-Dell. Ultimately he got a Dell-Windows one.A bit offtopic: The same guy bought a Hard Disk some time back (sealed) & it was preloaded with OpenSUSE Linux. It was bit puzzling as how that is possible. But, he did not waste time & formatted it. I was left wondering whether Hard-Disks come with preloaded OS as well (Did not bother researching at that time)

Thats what I thought too. But it was a sealed one, also correction, it was more of an installation boot up & the OS was not installed yet as such.

a brand new is hdd is raw always, there are some free tools you get to check out if the hdd was used and then sold. if your friend got it in that condition he should have returned it , you can always put somethings NOT very funny in a hdd which a format will never wipe out, if the seller is of malicious kinds 😕
