Datafox - Bandwidth Usage Monitoring Extension For MTNL Triband Broadband

Version 0.85b released!

Guys, I just released the (hopefully) much awaited version of DataFox with MTNL support. In case any of you had installed a previous version, please note that the update site has not been updated since this is a beta version, and this version will require manual installation. Feedback is greatly appreciated and encouraged, let me know if your run into any issues so I may fix them and move on to the final release. I'm not too familiar with MTNL, being a BSNL user myself, but I've hopefully been able to implement the "right thing" with help from Arnav, GSV and Apoorv; thanks guys!

MTNL Delhi users, Apoorv pointed out that the records which I was using for my statistics are often simply rubbish - negative "bytes used" and overlapping timestamps. The only "reliable" source (at least as far as your bill is concerned) is the front page, so I've taken the records from there; as a consequence uploaded data and time online is not available. If anyone has a time based account and is willing to help, I'd like to hear from you as the amount of data downloaded is probably of no use to you.

More details on the Wiki page: DataFox

Enjoy!
Brian.

Thanks! Will try & report if any prob

Dude, I'm using Firefox in Linux, and there seems to be a problem. The right click seems to work only if the mouse button is pressed i.e. If I press and release the right mouse button, the 'Preferences' window pops up. I can view the menu only if I press the right mouse button, kepp it pressed, move the mouse to the desired choice, and release it over there. And second, the preferences are not updated in realtime. I have to click on 'Update' to change the preferences. Probably a real time update would be better (or a choice to use automatic updates in the preferences).

Hmm, interesting - does anyone else see this on Linux or windows? Apoorv, what Firefox version are you using on Linux & do you see the right behaviour in your other extensions?

Yes, this is something I put all the infrastructure in for, but will implement it in the final version. There were too many "little things" to fix.

What about the actual figures it fetches though, are those correct?
Brian.

I'm using version 2.0 of Firefox on Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft). In Windows, there isn't any such problem. The other extensions work fine. The figures which it fetches (both chargeable and total) are correct. And since I've been downgraded to 256 Kbps, the negative numbers problem is gone too.

@infernalproteusExtension seems to be workin great 🙂 ..not many ppl have released software for MTNL..thanks for the effort !Wil report if any issues crop up..

Hey, not my fault, stupid GoDaddy...

Thanks for the compliments guys, feel so relieved not having to hit that stupid MTNL Delhi site about a thousand times a day to see if it was up and I could continue DataFox development!

Perhaps I'll have to put some sort of cache in there, so that DF will show you the most recent value fetched (in a different color, so you know it's stale data).

cyberwiz: you said not many have released software for MTNL, I didn't come across anything, is there any software for MTNL at all?

Brian.

DDOSsing the MTNL website would be a waste of time. I behaves exactly as it it's being DDOSsed all the time! 🙂

i was just kidding. maybe they would start blaming tools like yours for their site's downtime!
