Google Drive

because it happens in the background and is supposed to stay like that. if it eats up all your bandwidth during the syncing process, it is going to hurt your regular browsing and other stuff right? you keep the app running in the background. it does the sync process at its own pace. you do not really have to monitor it. just let it do its job on its own.

Upload takes up bandwidth to that extent? Sync might take.....as in if theres something to be downloaded. But uploads are running in background even as i browse. I havent faced any such issue.

But thats the point. I wasn't even downloading/browsing anything. I started the upload, left the pc and went away.

sorry for late reply. powercut

Accidentally closed my drive tab and my 12% upload vanished. Now starting again

you are uploading using the web? 😕 bad decision bro. use their desktop app.

I've installed this before. and uninstalled it. But the google drive folder is still there in my comp. so half an hour back installed this desktop version and while installing it, it said that "google drive folder" is not empty. select an empty folder. Since i've already started the upload i clicked cancel. Installed it now. Will see how it goes again

it would not resume from the older folder even if all the data is already present offline on your computer. that's why it is a bad idea to uninstall it if you want to use it frequently. it would sync all the data with your computer from scratch. this is something that annoys me a lot. i have like 50GB of data on Google Drive. i do not want to sync it back when i reinstall windows on my computer even though i have all of that data already available offline. i hope google fixes this and starts supporting file matching service so that there is no waste of time and bandwidth in downloading all the data again.

wow. thats crap.Installed the desktop version again and now its syncing. But UI is woefully bad. I mean it just shows "Syncing 1 file out of 1". No progress bar ..nothing. How to know how much % of the my file has been uploaded. so am supposed to keep the computer on and check it time to time whether upload is finished or not?Also there's no option to shut down PC after uploads complete.Skydrive looks like an good alternative. will try it

I don't think Skydrive has an option to shut down your PC after syncing either. I mean, these are syncing tools, not downloading or uploading ones which give that feature. They are expected to be up to date as long as they are connected, and shutting down after syncing doesn't feel like a natural next step. Or to be more precise, there is no next step here. It is something like (at a very high level)

Code:
while (1) { sync(); }
