I cannot access any https site e.g., Orkut, Gmail, Rediffmail in secured mode.😕 I haven't been able to access these sites for many days but now I need to. Any solutions, please?

True. Even I find it difficult to access Gmail. This problem began from the day I chose the https option in the 'Settings'. Everyday I have to play around with the URL several times before it opens and still I am not sure whether the same trick would work the next day. This is really irritating. Someone please explain the cause and solution to this problem.

I also face some problems intermittently after I log into Gmail. In my case I suspect that it something from their end as they are making some changes on that page eg: after logging in I cant use the link for Bin, Spam, cannot delete mails etc.

BTW what MTU are u using on your modem & computer. Check out https://broadband.forum/mtnl-broadband/49677-unable-browse-laptop-wifi/ post #2.

If that does not help then complain to MTNL about it this has been happening to many customers. Write to DG Broadband, email-id's (Mumbai) can be found in Wiki

The MTU value I use is the MTNL recommended 1492. the only other hange to the settings that I made recently was the addition of DNS servers. @Shashank80 and @socrates please mention the DNS servers you are using. I have entered eight DNS servers into my settings. They areMTNL59.185.0.50203.94.227.7059.185.0.23203.94.243.70OpenDNS208.67.222.222208.67.220.220DNS Advantage156.154.70.1156.154.71.1

I use OpenDNS settingsPreferred DNS 208.67.222.222Alternate DNS 208.67.220.220These two I added 'Advanced' button -> 'DNS' tab -> 'Add'208.67.220.222208.67.222.220@ronello's Have you changed the MTU on your computer too?

@socrates In my case I have not been able to go beyond the log in page of Orkut, Gmail and Rediffmail (in Secured mode), i.e., all https sites.@ronello As I have a 256 KBps connection I have changed the default MTNL fed MTU from 1492 to 1430 in the router as well as in my PC with TCPOptimizer (I have restarted my PC after changing the Windows XP MTU, cannot use DrTCP - it somehow crashes). I read in one post here to change it to 1430 for 256 KBps connection. 1492 is for 2 Mbps connection, I read. For DNS I was using 4.2.2.1, 59.179.243.70, 203.94.243.70 and 59.185.0.23. Now I have added MTNL DNS - 59.185.0.50, 203.94.227.70OpenDNS - 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220DNS Advantage - 156.154.70.1, 156.154.71.1Still cannot access the above sites. Someone guide me if I am wrong somewhere.

I think all those who are facing this problem should write to MTNL GM Broadband (email id's are in Wiki). They should be made aware of this problem at the earliest. It's a disgrace the way they are running their 'service'. If we can call it that. 😡

BTW Another DNS service provider is Comodo
Preferred DNS server address for Comodo

Secure DNS is: 156.154.70.22
Alternate DNS server address for Comodo

Secure DNS is: 156.154.71.22 😗

I use OpenDNS settings
Preferred DNS 208.67.222.222
Alternate DNS 208.67.220.220
These two I added 'Advanced' button -> 'DNS' tab -> 'Add'

208.67.222.220

@ronello's Have you changed the MTU on your computer too?

No, I have not made changes to the MTU value in my computer. The thing is Gmail used to work very well before. It is only now that this problem has come up. I believe something is wrong at MTNL's end.

Partially solved the problem - I had forwarded Port 443 (which is for https, I think) in my modem. Deleted those Port Forwards and now I am able to log in to Rediffmail (secured), Gmail and to some extent Orkut. But Orkut still remains a problem. Sometimes I am not able to go beyond the homepage and even unable to check scraps.😡But the puzzling thing is why did the https connections get blocked when in fact I had forwarded Port 443 to unblock them???😕 Any ideas?

Sorry for late reply.@ronello in my case it is Port Forwarding which is seems was the reason. Now generally I am able to access Orkut, Gmail, Rediffmail (in secured mode) 😀 i.e., all https sites - after deleting the Port Forward rule for https i.e., Port 443. But it is an irony, isn't it. But why is this happening? Any guesses? 😕@gauravmhatre thanks for the suggestions. Now I am using 208.67.222.222 and 4.2.2.1 as the defaut DNS servers. I am still having recurrent disconnections but the reason doesn't seem to be the DNS (might be) but an MTNL line problem as posted by forum member flame which I am unable to get solved for about two months now. The linesman comes and if in his presence the modem is working (lights are o.k.) he says 'Abhi toh sab 1st class chal rahaa hai'. Kaun samjhaay inn beowkufon ko ki sab first class nahin hai!!😡

I think affected customers should write to the GM, DGM Broadband maybe even to the ED & a cc to TRAI, so they know there are many customers being affected. This used to be one of the symptoms of the 'April Problems' apparently still afflicts customers.
