🙂 I had availed DataOne connection, Chennai last month. I came to know of this forum only today (29-May-2005). Here goes my experience with Dataone:1) Right from day one after getting connected, I was unable establish connection. Reason being, I used to encounter Error# 678. I had logged a complaint with the call centre (1600-424-1600). They were kind enough to hold the complaint pending for almost a week. I approached our local exchange and informed about the situation. The lineman visited my house and identified the problem is with their lines (telephone cable). This was tracked and changed. I was happy to know that, I would be able to establish 24x7 connection. It all started after 1 hour of rectification --- the same old Error# 678. The whole process started again - round robin of course!2) Weeks passed and the complaint was raised to CMD of BSNL. One woud not believe the response I received. The whole of BSNL authorities called up and assured that they have pressing reasons to resolve this issue. Wow! so good to hear, I thought.3) Broadband Customer Service manager's visit to my house was welcomed. He started his analysis for the error# and declared that I have a very cheap network card installed (I have Realtek RTL8139). Also, he advocated me to go for IBM or Intel cards as he has one in his laptop. He was kind enough to configure the connection settings in the gateway itself. This would avoid me to click network connections.Well, to defend, I had to inform him that he had onboard/ PCMCIA card which is not the case with me. As I had to install the card separately, my engineer opted for this (well used in the industry) card.4) Things remained same even after a month. Now, I am not encountering error# 678 rather I would encounter page cannot be displayed. Reason being, the connection settings is configured in the gateway itself. However, I am able to connect to the internet on some specified timings and not whenever i need to.5) When I checked the gateway settings, I see that the gateway gets assigned an IP and I am able to ping the same. But I am unable to connect to the internet.6) Now, I am planning to downgrade my o/s from Windows XP pro to Windows 95/ 98 and see how it behaves.7) If it still remains same, the I am planning to surrender.Any thoughts from your side is welcome. Thanks,KVN

Thanks. I did refer to the link. At times, I do encounter Page cannot be displayed as the connection gets lost. What I am not sure is that how to troubleshoot and identify whether the problem pertains from NIC or because of BSNL.

Any ideas ?

ok well u r getting error 678 right ?? now to check the NIC what u need to do is check the device manager....start--control panel--system--hardware tab--device manager--network adapters--check for any yellow or red X marks, ? marks or ! marks.. and let meknow... max u could do about the NIC is put it on another PCI slot and update the drivers... now is this a single computer that u r using ?? any routers?? if yes they disconnect and they try connecting. give me the configs of ur pc... like the OS...

Virus in PC can destabalise ur usage and make it shoot up. I know this post has no connection with the header but I just wanted to say my comp has this prob at the office for past 30 days or so since I was using Reliance dial up earlier which is infested with worms and virus'.They just dont get removed inspite of anything. Seems Ill go bonkers soon.

Mr. Bharat,Do u know what viruses are on ur PC ?

O yeah - speed, natal, scrsvr, and few more which are all under the same series.

ANd yes the OS is Win 98 SE on those comps. My Laptop with WinXP is safe from all these even though I log to the same Network when I am in office.

Nope it has not. I do get 'Page cannot be displayed' frequently. But yes, I am able to connect to internet occasionally 🙁 . Below are the details of my m/c

OS: Windows XP SP2 5.1.2600
Processor: x86 1800 Mhz
RAM: 512 MB
NIC: Realtek RL 8139 Fast Ethernet NIC
ASDL Modem: UT-300R2 Ethernet ADSL Gateway

And the connection status in gateway would say 'Can not Reach PPP Server' and the state would be 'Not Connected'. 😱

However, by fortunate if it gets connected, the line gets dropped and the possibilities of getting connected again would be remote. And when the status in the gateway is checked, the IP would have been assigned and state would be 'Connected'.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch in advance, 🙄

Seriously, I think it is a cabling problem from BSNL's end.

BSNL advised to assign the IP address using TCP/IP Properties. Earlier 'Obtain an IP address automatically' was selected. Currently, IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default gateway and preferred DNS server is configured.

Not sure what happened, at present I am able to connect. But I still have doubts on whether to assign static IP rather DHCP should be enabled right?

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
