Vodafone said it is investigating the matter. "Some Vodafone customers in Tamil Nadu have been receiving missed calls from international numbers lately. We would like to inform all our customers in Tamil Nadu that this issue has been brought to our notice and we are currently investigating the same,"
Vodafone India said in a statement.

In delhi also i have been recieving these calls from a number which has a prefix +22.....many ppl have started complaining about this in delhi too...

Numbers beginning with +22455xxxxx are generally the ones that have been widely reported from all over the state. If one goes by ISD code, it is traced back to Guinea. The company issued an advisory on Wednesday requesting customers not to respond to such calls and report the offending numbers to Vodafone support centres.

Today I got a missed call from 00923415000604 to my Vodafone number.

I also got a missed call from +913320729933 on my private Vodafone number for which only about 5 people have... one has to wonder what the purpose of it is? If one were to call back - apart from obviously costing quite a lot to call Pakistan or West Africa in the OP's case, has anybody found out what these people want?

I doubt this number to be spam . Its West Bengal Circle BSNL Landline number.

BSNL has a lousy system (or it may be my operator, Airtel). Sometimes when I received calls from my father or brother, both on BSNL, the country code was omitted (+91) and the first 2 digits of the number (94 for BSNL) was shown as country code. During those days, I was expecting calls from SL and I was duped into believing that the calls were from SL.

Sorry, F*ked up the typing - so used to typing +91, should be +9233...

Same issue has been reported in Kolkata as well. I myself received a missed call from +92xxxxxxx...! I request everyone to not call back on the nos or else you would be charged at Rs.100 per minute !!
