Lots of people are discovering it this week. Aadhaar thankfully is not mandatory as they seem to be allowing other IDs.

But why they need any ID proof in the first place? Amazon Pay money is very limited in nature.

As per RBI guideline, all wallets need to have KYC done by Feb 28 to load funds. Freecharge/Ola/Amazon are accepting other proof. Mobikwik for example are not. PhonePe and Paytm not as well I suppose.

That leads me to a question. Has anyone been able to link other IDs at phonepe?

Dear Customer,

Complete your Customer Identification before Feb-28 to enjoy uninterrupted usage of Amazon Pay balance.

To verify your details all we need is an officially valid ID. The data that you share with us is confidential & secure. On completing the verification you will unlock a Rs 10000 monthly limit on Amazon Pay balance which you can use to recharge and shop on Amazon.in and other Amazon Pay partner websites.

If you complete the verification then you can continue enjoying the single-click benefits of Amazon Pay balance like before. If not then you will only be able to use your existing balance but will not be able to add balance, basis the new RBI guidelines. Post February 28, 2018, adding money to balance is restricted until submission of an officially valid ID.

It’s simple. No document upload is required! So Go ahead and Submit ID Now Amazon Sign In

So Pay would completely lock without KYC.

What happens to my gifts and credits balance?
This doesn't impact your gifts and credits balance. You can continue to load gifts and credits to your Amazon Pay balance.

This is confusing. Why cannot I just keep on loading gift cards?

What if someone gives my PAN / Aadhar card number?? And then does transactions pretending to be me.

based on a reddit thread, Amazon is accepting any random number in the field so there's that. no verification. nothing. good shit government is achieving with this nonsense.

I think to add any ID for authentication, OTP needs to be verified. OTP is automatically sent to phone number linked with Aadhar/PAN card. So if you get OTP, you would know that somebody tried to use your identity. And unless OTP is entered, that ID won't be linked with Wallet.

I do get sms from IT dept when my Returns are filed, so I guess PAN also has mobile number associated.

Amazon has no access to Income Tax database. IT made it mandatory to link mobile along with email 2-3 years ago.

I am just assuming that if somebody enters PAN number, somewhere from backend it connects IT dept which triggers sms to get OTP to process further like it happens with Aadhar.
Although I have never used PAN for Authentication recently.

Aadhaar is probably the only database open for authentication from private companies.

Income tax might be open to banks...
